Bantams (Grade 4)
Orange Crush 13, H2O 12: For the Crush, Allie Reczek and Alexis Mason were hot on offense while Camryn Findley and Catherine Rizk controlled the boards. For H2O, Grace Erney and Rebecca Gavel led the offense while Julia Anderson and Sarah Houle were aggressive on defense.
Hot Tamales 20, Jolly Ranchers 14: For the Jollies, Heather Azzarito and Caroline Condon led the offense and Elizabeth Weisgerber was strong on defense. For the Tamales, Dani Otero and Olivia Hage led the offense while Ava Petrellese and Lauren Carrino were relentless on defense.
Dark Sharks 16, Crazy Bananas 13: For the Sharks, Alex Futterman and Rachel Tomasino led the offense and Lexy Leidlein controlled the defense. For the Bananas, Julia Doyle and Crissy Sgobbo led the offense while Abbi Pearson and Katie McCabe were aggressive on defense.
Grade 5
Wilton 21, Newtown 17: Megan Goyda led the way with 7 points. Kamdynn Moroney, Olyvia Shaw and Jillian Pieretti contributed the rest offensively. Haley Conrad and Jessica Maturo played great defense in the heart-breaking loss.
Newtown 11, Darien 10: Darien took Newtown out of its running game and shut Newtown down offensively but the local girls scored enough to win. Megan Goyda scored 8 points, Oylivia Shaw and Jillian Pieretti played great defense and created many Darien turnovers.
Boys
Grade 2
Huskies: The Huskies were led by solid offensive performances by Stephen Dooley, Nathan Bellagamba, and Quinn McAndrew. Kyle Griffin, Sachin Manusukhani, and Rohan Manusukhani played great team defense.
Celtics: Nolan Adis, Adam Bowditch, Jimmy Gillen, and John Godino led the offense while Ethan Shaffer, Shaine Luzietti, Darren Huffman, and Kevin Gong played well on the defensive end of the floor.
Warriors: Justin Engler, Max Wrage, and Carter Tagliarini had great shooting. Patrick Grover had great overall game play, and Hunter Kirkman was strong on defense.
Striker: Offensive: Luke Azzarito, Matthew Bradbury. Defense: Alexander Lloyd, James Mok
Wolverines: Offense: Brandon Lutz and William Swierbut. Defense:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â JP Ford and Owen Meeker
Orange Crush: Andrew Tomasino, Tucker Depuy, and Jack Street led the offensive scoring attack, while William Archiere, James Tibolla, and Luke Hannan led an impressive defensive showing.
Wildcats: The team was led by outstanding defensive efforts from Max Hanson, Josh Taylor, and Kyle Sullivan. Jack Kuligowski, Robert Hetzer, Ethan Braddock, and Kyle Good provided great passing to lead the offense.
Midgets (Grade 3)
Slimers vs Golden Retrievers: Vincent Genovese, Kyle Cascone, Chris Maturo, and James Clifford led the way for the potent Slimer offense, while Jack Hannan, Brando Giglio and Derrick Lewis didnât give the opposition room to operate and dominated the boards. Todd Petersen and Alek Budd led the offense for the Golden Retrievers, while Nick Cappelli, Henry Vaughn, and Garrett Mandarano played well defensively. Gabe Stewart was a force near the basket and complied several rebounds.
Red Heat vs Ghostbusters: The Red Heat had a great offensive outburst, led by Jared Tod, Carter McCleary, and Bobby Elston. The defense was led by their big man, Trevor Bottom, with help from Morgan Main and Miles Martiska. The Ghostbusters were led by Garrett Norberg, Brendan Mayer, and Justin Kahn on offense and defensively by Michael Arena, Tucker Garrity. and James Doyle.
Magic vs The Mighty Squirrels: All members of the Magic team played hard throughout the game. The Magic offensive spark was provided by Thomas Briscoe, Michael Annesley, and Thomas Luciano, while constant defensive pressure was applied by Tyler Dickinson and Gavin Connors.
Bantams (Grade 4)
Sky Hawks 40, Wildcats 24: For the Sky Hawks Jackson Dooley had 14 points while Matt Principi had 4 assists and Thomas Skrelja had 5 steals. Brian Montoya pulled down 12 rebounds. Greg Brissette had 6 points for the Wildcats while Tristan Crone had 4 assists, Jacob Duffy had 3 steals, and Jack Murray had 6 boards.
Huskies 34, Dark Knights 19: For the Huskies, Andrew Deluca had 15 points. Cameron MacDonald had 4 assists, Alex Street led the defense, and Adam Farley had 7 rebounds. For the Knights, Ben Terry and Owen Rahr combined for 10 points, and Kevin Reiss had 5 steals, Tom Coppinger had 5 assists, and Jack Carello had 6 rebounds.
Panthers 25, Fire Dragons 22: The Panthers were led on offense by Silas Decker and Daniel Fore who combined for 10 points. Nick Harper had 3 assists, Rick Mariani had 5 steals, and Jack Bittman had 11 rebounds. Adam Wolff and Robert Murray combined for 14 points. Aidan Ford had 3 assists, and Jack Ciaramello had 7 boards and Connor Dinallo came up with 4 steals.
Huskies 26, Bullsharks 22: For the Huskies, Andrew Deluca had 18 points. Adam Farley had 4 assists, AJ Salaris led the defense and Nate Jones had 7 rebounds. The Bullsharks was led by John Finnegan and James Hobar with 6 points each. Michael Arther had 4 assists, Ian Klepacki had 3 steals, and Shane Maskel had 6 rebounds.
Hotshots 36, Thrill 24: The Hotshots were led by Evan Eggleston with 14 points. Brook Petershack had 3 assists while Kevin Riccardi had 7 rebounds and Daniel Badiola had an outstanding all around game. Joshua Dunn and David Daria combined for 12 points for the Thrill. Eric Vigneau had 4 assists, Jack Buchler and Ethan Aug played outstanding defensive games.  Â
Panthers 25, Sky Hawks 16: The Panthers were led on offense by Silas Decker and Daniel Fore who combined for 17 points. Nick Harper had 6 assists, Rick Mariani had 6 steals, and Jack Bittman had 10 rebounds. For the Sky Hawks, Jackson Dooley had 6 points while Dwyer Grimes had 4 assists and Sterling Radasci had 5 steals. Brian Montoya pulled down 12 rebounds.Â
Panthers 20, Hotshots 19: The Panthers were led on offense by Eugene Citrano and Silas Decker who combined for 14 points. Christian Adam had 5 steals, while Teddy Wojjcik and Liam Jones played outstanding defense. The Hotshots were led by Liam Deakin with 10 points. Matt Sadowski had 3 assists while Kevin Riccardi had 7 rebounds and Daniel Badiola had an outstanding all around game.
Grade 5
Tigers 24, Blue Devils 22: Austin Kasbarian led all scorers with 8 points and was supported by Tim Cervera with 6 rebounds and tenacious defense from Tyler LaCroce. The Blue Devilsâ offense were led by Nicholas Lansing with 8 points and Ryan Norton with 6 points. The defensive was charged with excellent rebounding from Jack Palermo despite an injured foot, Matt Krasnickas, and Branden Marcinek.
Blues Brothers 21, Dawgs 18: The Blues Brothers held off the mighty Dawgs and squeaked out a victory. Peter Clifford led the Blues Brothers with 8 points and played stellar defense with 4 steals, earning him defensive player of the game.Offensive player of the game Bradley Capeci, however, is the player who stole the Dawgsâ bone going the full length of the court twice to score and finished with those 4 points. Nicholas Lameto scored 3 points and had 2 steals. Will Huegi again played very well, going 2-for-4 from the foul line and finished with 4 points and 3 steals. Nicholas Lombardo chipped in 2 points, giving the Brothers their second victory of the season and avenging last weekâs three-point loss to the Dawgs. Newtown Dawgs: Peter DeBona led the team with 8 points, Tommy Kitzmiller added another 4 points. Ben Dieckman had 8 rebounds and Collin Villamana played great defense and provided stellar ball handling.
The Green Monsters 23, March Madness 23: The Green Monstersâ Henry Primavera led the offense with 8 points and Austin DeSousa and Chris Mok chalked up another 6 point each. Defense was led by Gino Pagliaro, Paul Whitaker, and Matthew Kugler. For March Madness, Jordan Klein, Nick Venezia, Connery Mayer, and Chad Azzarito led a tenacious defensive effort with multiple steals. Robert Hutchins, Chris Anesi, and Elliott Bennett kept the team close with great interior defense and rebounding.
Lightning 23, Destiny 19: In a hotly-contested rematch, the Lightning edged the Destiny with outstanding efforts from Michael Liberante and Steven Moccio who combined for 8 points, 9 rebounds, 9 steals, 3 assists, and 2 blocked shots. Jacob Anastasi had the hot hand for the Lightning with 6 points. Kevin Arther, Joey Conrod, and Alex Hess all added a bucket of their own to contribute to this strong team effort. Matthew Frazzetta and Bradley Wiseman provided tenacious âDâ all day long while RH Clark made a well-rounded contribution with 3 points, 2 steals, a blocked shot, and a rebound. Destinyâs offensive was led by Dylan Kretz with 6 points and Owen McInerney with 4 points. Destinyâs defense was led by Cameron Mitchell, Thomas Addessi, Patrick Flynn, and Brandon Pavlicek.
Destiny 28, Blues Brothers 26: Destiny was led by Owen McInerney, with 17 points. Dylan Kretz and Ryan Brello had 4 points each. Defensively, Cameron Mitchell and Thomas Leuci both had another great game, assisted by David Usher and Brandon Pavlicek. The Blues Brothers managed to reach a season-high 26 points but it wasnât quite enough to overtake the physical play of the purple Destiny. However, it was not without a lack of effort. The Brothers played tough and, after trailing 27-19 with 2:56 to play, outscored their opponent 7-1 to come within 2 points with 26 seconds remaining. Nicholas Lametto, the offensive player of the game for Blues Brothers, made two clutch free throws down the stretch and finished with 4 points. Peter Clifford had another outstanding game, scoring 11. He also had 3 steals. Will Huegi played hard and scored 4 points and added 2 assists and 4 steals.Defensive player of the game Benjamin Marini had 5 steals and 3 points. Robert Lombardo and Bradley Capeci completed the scoring for the Brothers with 2 points apiece. Lombardo led the team in rebounds with 3.
Blue Devils 21, March Madness 20: The Blue Devils were led by Alex Dunleavy with 8 points and Nicholas Lansing with 6 points. Evans Kohlsaat and Will LeMay pounded the boards with a combined 12 rebounds. Justin Gillespieand Noah LaFerriere came up with the clutch steals when they were needed. March Madness had another second-half comeback that feel just short at the end. Chad Azzarito led the offensive charge with 10 points, while Taylor Koonz, Patrick Godino, and William Gottschalck put forth great efforts on the defensive end.
Lightning 24, Tigers 15: In another strong effort for the Lightning, Jacob Anastasi, Kevin Arther, and Steven Moccio led the scoring with 6 points each. Michael Liberante and Matthew Frazzetta also had a bucket each for the electric yellow squad. RH âRebound Houndâ Clark, one of the league leaders in boards, pulled down 9 rebounds and added 2 points to round out the Bolt scoring. âLightning Thievesâ Joey Conrod and Alex Hess combined for 7 steals, applying serious heat on defense, while Bradley Wiseman and Philip Coffey rounded out this true team effort with a combined 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and an assist. The Tigers were led offensively by aggressive play from Conor Brennan and by strong defense from Zach Anderson with 4 steals, and 5 rebounds from Quinlan Hart.
Green Monsters 30, Dawgs 15: The Green Monsters were led by Marc Larsorsa with 8 points and Henry Primavera with 6 points. Chris Mok had 6 steals and Parker Johnson had 8 rebounds. Jacob Steinebrey and Austin DeSoursa scored 4 each. Newtown Dawg Tommy Kitzmiller scored 6 points to lead the Dawgs. Jack Reilly and Matt Kretz added 4 points each, with Kretz providing nice outside shooting. Ryan Marusi had 6 steals, Matt Kretz had 4 rebounds and Tim Jaeger played outstanding defense.
Grade 6
Scarsdale 42, Newtown Gold 37 (OT): Newtown came up just short as Scarsdale went 6-for-6 from the foul line in overtime. Matt Maturo had a strong game with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Geoff Santore hit a 3-pointer and totaled7 points, while Mason Melillo had 6 points and 6 rebounds. Matt Elias had 5 points, and Alex Gerbo pulled down 6 boards.
Ridgefield 41, Newtown Gold 26: Newtown was within 5 with 4 minutes remaining in the first half, but Ridgefield had a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach. Ryan Shaw had 8 points, Matt Maturo 6 points, and Tim VanderHave 5 points. Austin LeBlanc and James Frazzetta played inspired defense.
New Castle 66, Newtown Gold 36: Newtown kept the game close for most of the first half, but was eventually worn down by a big New Castle team. Mason Melillo was the leading scorer with 10 points (including three 3-pointers). Matt Maturo had 9 points and Matt Elias 7 points. James Frazzetta distributed 4 assists. Tim VanderHave, battling much taller opponents, pulled down 6 rebounds to go along with his 5 points.
Newtown Gold 43, Westport 35: Newtown won its second consecutive league contest, a physical game that had a total of 50 fouls. Austin LeBlanc (3 assists) and Kieran Lynch (7 points) did a great job at the point on both ends of the floor. Ryan Shaw scored 13 points, Matt Elias 11, and Mason Melillo 6. Geoff Santore was a terror on defense, with 5 steals to complement his 4 points.Â
Brookfield 46, Newtown Gold 20: Newtown showed the effects of 5 games in 6 days, as the team was unable to keep pace. Kieran Lynch led the way with 7 points (including a 3-pointer), while Matt Maturo had 6 points and Mason Melillo 5. Alex Gerbo did a good job on the boards.
Juniors (Grades 7-8)
Cavs 70, Wizards 30: For the Cavs, Drew Tarantino was the high scorer with 28 points. William Swain and Chris Horkachuer were the defensive stars and Nick Norberg was the rebound leader. All players contributed to the win with great defense and scored to help with the win. For the Wizards, Deegan Beauchemin was the high-scorer with 8 points. Adam Israel and Mike Unschuld were the defensive stars, and Tom Rahr was the rebound leader. Nate Dowd and Deegan Beauchemin combined for 15 points in the loss. Scott Gregson hustled on both ends of the court.
Huskies 38, X-Men 34: For the Huskies, Chris Carroll was the high-scorer with 13, followed by Aaron Beckett and Mike Cirone, each of whom had 6 points. Cameron Patrick was the defensive star and Austin Huffman was the rebound leader. For the X-Men, Bobby Archiere and Matt Barra were the high-scorers, combining for 19 points. Keaton McCleary was the assist leader, Brennan OâSullivan was the defensive star, and David Csordas was the rebound leader.
Jazz 34, Celtics 31: For the Jazz, Otto Kerler and Sawyer Conrad were the high-scorers with 11 and 8, respectively. Austin Raftery was the assist leader, and Daniel Hamula the defensive star. For the Celtics, Jon Sherman was the high-scorer with 9 points. Nick Marcinek was the defensive star, and Tim Kelly was the rebound leader.
Wolfpack 41, Hammerheads 24: For the Wolfpack, Joe Carrino, Danny Romeo, and Trever Palmer were the high-scorers for a combined 14 points. Jason Ferrari was the defensive star. For the Hammerheads, Will Dalton was the high-scorer with 11 points. Spencer Brindley was the assist leader, Danny Cummings the defensive star, and Ryan Szalay the rebound leader. Spencer Brindley and Andy DeWolfe played tough defense. Mike Davenport hustled in the game.
Heat 37, Bricklayers 26: For the Heat, Jeff Peterson was the high scorer with 17 points, followed by Matt White with 11 points. Colin Reilly was the assist leader, Kyle McGrath the defensive star, and Jack Lago the rebound leader. For the Bricklayers, Brenton Scott was the high scorer with 9 points, followed by Kaustav Mitra with 5 points. Connor Lemay was the defensive star.
Runninâ Rebels 27, Wildcats 24: For the Rebels, Jim Leidlein was the high scorer with 7 points, followed by Jacob Moore with 5 points. Shane Quimby and Dominic Scarangella were the defensive stars , and Chris Hartley was the rebound leader. Colin Post hit two early jumpers to open up the zone. For the Wildcats, Patrick Berger was the high scorer with 10 points. Bobby Silver was the rebound leader. Austin Babyak added 4 points and played great defense. Jordan Soch had 4 points.
Nuggets 30, Heat 26: For the Nuggets, Wes Morlack was the high scorer with 18 points. Andrew Cragin and Griffin Davis were the defensive stars, and CJ Dunn was the rebound leader. For the Heat, Jeff Peterson was the high scorer with 9 points. Matt White was the assist leader and Colin Reilly was the defensive star. Joe Calbo played a strong all-around game.
Magic 65, Thunder 33: For the Magic, Riley Cross was the high scorer with 27, followed by Garrison Buzzacana with 22 points. Mitchell Stewart and John Eron were the defensive stars, and Darryl Silverlieb was the rebound leader. Bobby Schreiber and Colin Morrissey had strong games. For the Thunder, Grant Ricketts was the high scorer with 9 points. Wiley Zahansky was the assist leader, Nick Lotrecchiano was the defensive star, and Doug Miler was the rebound leader.
Vipers 47, Eagles 36: For the Vipers, Eric Pisani, Stephen Walsh, and Shay DeMarche were the high scorers with 11 points each. Stephen Grasso and Colton Moroney were the defensive stars. For the Eagles, Joe Santella and Julian Dunn were the high scorers with 10 points each. Pat Carrello was the defensive star and Sean Kemsley was the rebound leader.
