From the world stage, renowned Violinist Marissa Regni will join the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra for a delightful mash-up of Bach and works of contemporary composers who admired him, with a bit of Baroque, Boccherini and bongos thrown in.

The season finale of WSO’s Edmond Town Hall Series, “Strings Attached: A Blend of Classical, Crossover & Jazzy Strings” will be performed Sunday, April 27 at Edmond Town Hall. Doors open at 3 pm and the performance of the unique program crafted by WSO Music Director Lief Bjaland will begin at 4.

Regni is principal second violin of the National Symphony Orchestra, a position she assumed in September 1996. She is also a member of the critically acclaimed Manchester String Quartet and a founding member of The Kennedy Center Chamber Players. With the Chamber Players, she performed concerts on a transatlantic crossing of the Queen Mary 2 and at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires. From May 2020 to 2021 she was the co-creator and host of the 53-week web series “NSO@Home Live.”

Regni has made solo and chamber music appearances across the United States, Germany, and Mexico. She has collaborated with such artists as Christoph Eschenbach, Joseph Silverstein, Julius Baker, The Angeles Quartet, Arturo Delmoni, The Walden Chamber Players, and 20th Century Consort; performed solo appearances with orchestras including the Saint Louis Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Chamber Orchestra, and others; and she has been a featured artist on NPR and “The MacNeil/Lehrer Report.”

In addition to her orchestral, chamber, and solo work, Regni has a strong passion for educational concerts. She developed a popular series of children’s programs, which she performs at the Kennedy Center, around greater Washington, D.C., and across the country. She co-created and has co-hosted the National Symphony Orchestra’s Young People’s Concerts since 2014.

The April 27 program in Newtown will open with The Bells of St Genevieve by Marais. Regni will then be featured in the performance of Loussier’s Concerto for Violin and Tabla.

The afternoon will continue with performances of Britten’s Playful Pizzicato, Anitra’s Dance by Grieg, and Fauré’s Pavane.

Piazzolla/O’Connor’s Libertango will see the return of Regni, who will also be joined by WSO Concertmaster and Violinist Alyce Cognetta Bertz.

Boccherini’s Fandango, W.C. Handy’s St Louis Blues and J.S. Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D minor will continue the program, before the finale of Grapelli’s Bach Through the Looking Glass, which will again feature Regni and Cognetta Bertz.

Tickets are $48, and all seating is general admission. Tickets are available through The Palace Theater in Waterbury at waterburysymphony.org; in person at the box office, 100 East Main Street in Waterbury (weekdays, 10 am-5 pm); or by calling 203-346-2000.
