Sunshine, Sweets, And Support: Tag And Bake Sale Assisted Families United In Newtown
On Saturday, May 3, under clear skies and blazing sunshine, the community offered support to Families United in Newtown (FUN) by patronizing a combination tag and bake sale hosted at Sentimenti Antique, Consignment and Art Gallery on Queen Street.
The four-hour event raised funds for FUN, a nonprofit supporting individuals with special needs and their families.
The hospitality of shop owner Sandra Rasmussen made the day especially memorable.
FUN Co-Founder Linda Jones said Rasmussen’s “warmth and generosity created a welcoming atmosphere that drew in enthusiastic shoppers and supporters. Browsers explored a variety of unique treasures and antiques inside the shop while the outdoor table overflowed with Tag Sale finds and delicious homemade baked goods.”
The bake sale featured an irresistible array of treats including cookies, brownies, fresh breads, and the standout favorite: Chuck Samson’s delicious sourdough bread, which quickly sold out, according to Jones.
Volunteers and supporters of FUN enjoyed connecting with visitors throughout the day and sharing the mission behind their work.
“We had a great time fundraising for FUN,” said one volunteer. The Newtown High School National Honor Society volunteers helped participants make bright tissue paper flowers for their moms and paint rocks for fun. Music filled the air from DJ Christopher Samson.
The event was not only a fundraiser, but a celebration of connection and compassion. Jones offers her “heartfelt thanks to Sandra, all bakers, volunteers, and community members who helped make the day such a success.”
