Family: My wife Gina, and our two girls, Isabella, 13, and Giovanna, 10.

Pets: Neptune, our dog; and Billy, our cat.

How did you meet your wife? We met and started talking online, and the first time we met in person, we met at a coffee shop on February 3, 2008. The reason I know that date is not just because I met my wife — which was an important day — but it’s also the day the Giants beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl. It was a wonderful day on many fronts.

How long have you lived in Newtown? About ten years.

Where do you work and what do you do? I’m an assistant principal at Newtown High School, finishing my second year there.

What do you like doing in your free time? Besides spending time with my family — which I feel like sometimes there’s never enough time to do that — I’m a big sports fanatic. I’m a big Mets fan, a Giants fan, and even the local sports scene. My younger daughter is a lacrosse and field hockey player, and I love going to her games. That’s one of the benefits of working at the high school, in fact. I get to go see the high school teams play, which is a neat experience. I really love sports. Even during COVID when most of the sports things were shut down, I was watching some unique things. There were marble competitions going on. Anything that has competition is great, but baseball and football are my two big things.

What is the most recent book you’ve read? The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt, which was very eye-opening as both a parent and an administrator at school. It’s a really easy read, with the opinions in there supported by a lot of data. It’s not just a clinical person sharing their opinion. It is that, but it’s also supported by a lot of scientific data that’s hard to refute about the challenges that our kids are facing with technology and social media. It was a very, very interesting read.

Who is your favorite musical artist? Billy Joel. He is by far my favorite musician. I’ve seen him many times. The best concert I ever saw was a Billy Joel concert at Shea Stadium with Garth Brooks, Steven Tyler, Tony Bennett, and then he ended with Paul McCartney.

What was the most recent movie you saw in the theater? It was a birthday party that I took my daughter to at Edmond Town Hall, where we watched The Emoji Movie.

Favorite actor? I really like Michael Keaton. He’s really versatile.

Favorite movie genre? I like a lot of action movies. My older daughter and I are watching a lot of the superhero, Marvel movies, Star Wars — those types of movies now.

If you could spend the day with one person, living or deceased, who would you choose and why? Without a doubt, my grandmother on my mother’s side. I’m first generation here in the States. My parents immigrated here from Portugal and growing up, it was my mother and grandmother and my mother’s two sisters that really raised me and made me who I am today. I would not have what I have, or have been as successful as I am, without the four of them. My grandmother passed away years ago. She never got to meet my wife or our two daughters, and I would love an opportunity for an hour for her to sit down and meet them and get to know them, and for them to get to know her, because I really would not be where I am today without her.

Favorite color? Orange

Favorite food? I can’t live without pizza.

What is your favorite thing about Newtown? I know it’s kind of cliché, a lot of people say this, but I really love the small town atmosphere, the focus on community and kids. You really can get just about anything you need in Newtown. You don’t need to leave. There’s good restaurants, good grocery stores, good medical help. Just about everything you could want is here, but it doesn’t feel like a big city. It still has that small town vibe, which is really nice. Working in town now, I see it from a different angle, not just as a resident but also as an employee here, and it just really solidifies that feeling. It’s a really nice place to raise kids.

Do you have a personal credo? Treat people the way you want to be treated.
