Reed Intermediate School brought magic to the stage earlier this month with their spring musical production of The Wizard of Oz, performed to three sold-out audiences on May 2 to 4.

The production featured a talented cast and crew of approximately 130 students, who began rehearsals in January. Under the guidance of a dedicated creative team, the young performers brought L. Frank Baum’s beloved story to life with energy, heart, and talent.

The production was directed and choreographed by Erin Loucks, with support from Assistant Director Dawn Field, Music Director Jennifer Sisco, and Costume Designer Kristin Castaldi. The show also benefited from the expertise of the Newtown High School tech crew, led by stage manager Elizabeth Huizar.

The lead roles were: Emma Boshell as Dorothy, Noah Napolitano as the Scarecrow, Dexter Upshaw as the Tinman, Dylan Loucks as the Cowardly Lion, Ali Tuz as Toto, Leah Carias as the Wicked Witch, Paige Kirshner as Glinda, Benjamin Wismar-Burger as Professor Marvel and the Wizard of Oz.

As the production’s director, Loucks said she was happy to see the entire school community come together to support the show, which demonstrated student talent but also the power of collaboration, creativity, and hard work.
