Flipped Car
Newtown Police report Robert Krajewski, 25, of Monroe, operating a 2016 Subaru Legacy, was traveling southbound on Hattertown Road at 12:02 am May 8. Krajewski crossed the centerline, went off the shoulder of the northbound lane, then crossed back over onto the shoulder of the southbound lane, before colliding with a tree. Following the impact, the vehicle flipped over, landing on its roof before flipping back onto the tires.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Krajewski was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.
Two Injured In Collision
Newtown Police report Seeletso Mokgosi, 52, of Redding, operating a 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300, was traveling southbound on Poverty Hollow Road at 6:24 pm May 16. Lynn Ambrose, 58, of Fairfield, operating a 2017 Honda CR-V, was traveling northbound on Poverty Hollow Road. Mokgosi crossed the centerline, entered the northbound travel lane, and struck Ambrose’s vehicle.
Both drivers were evaluated for possible injuries and Ambrose was transported to Danbury Hospital. Both vehicles were towed.
Mokgosi was issued an infraction for failure to maintain a lane.
Public Safety Truck Backs Into Car
Newtown Police report Ashley Sosa, 25, of Middletown, operating a Connecticut Department of Public Safety truck, was backing from a parking spot in a parking lot on Farrell Court at 2:15 pm May 18. Brian Dorsey, 46, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2009 Vokswagen GTI, was traveling eastbound in the same lot. Sosa backed into Dorsey’s vehicle. Following the collision, the rear of Sosa’s vehicle was pushed towards an unoccupied 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 owned by Christina Thompson of Sandy Hook.
No injuries were reported. None of the vehicles were towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Rear-Ended Stopped Vehicle
Newtown Police report Suchite Hernandez, 35, of Danbury, operating a 2007 Hino 268 tractor trailer, was traveling north on Berkshire Road at 11:54 am May 19. Elizabeth Abercrombie, 32, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2022 Honda Passport, was stopped in traffic traveling north on Berkshire Road behind several non-contact vehicles. Hernandez could not stop in time and rear-ended Abercrombie’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.
The incident is still under investigation; enforcement is pending.
Both Drivers Receive Tickets
Newtown Police report Damien Mason, 32, of East Haven, operating a 2014 Chevrolet Express, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 12:01 pm May 19. He was traveling behind a 2011 Lexus IS250 operated by Charlett Junes, 50, of Waterbury. The incident occurred in a construction zone. Mason told police he was attempting to avoid an out of control chipper truck approaching his vehicle and he rear-ended Junes’ vehicle.
A passenger in Junes’ vehicle complained of minor injuries and was transported to Griffin Hospital. Junes’ vehicle was towed from the scene.
Mason was issued an infraction for following too close. Junes was issued an infraction for operating without minimum insurance.
Failure To Appear Charge
Newtown Police arrested Nicole Hernandez, 32, of Sandy Hook, on an outstanding warrant on May 21. She was charged with second-degree failure to appear. She failed to post bond and remained in custody until she was transported to Danbury Superior Court on May 22.
Deer Hit Car
Newtown Police report Keith Hite, 37, of Monroe, operating a 2020 Nissan Altima, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 7:03 am May 21. A deer entered the roadway, crossed the centerline, and struck Hite’s vehicle.
Hite was not injured. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Backed Into Car
Newtown Police report Seth Shedarowich, 52, of New Haven, operating a 2018 Honda Pilot, was traveling northbound on High Rock Road at 7:41 am May 21. Huong Vu, 41, of Monroe, operating a 2015 Toyota Camry, was traveling northbound on High Rock Road behind Shedarowich’s vehicle. Both vehicles came to a stop at the intersection with Berkshire Road. Shedarowich backed up, backing into Vu’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Shedarowich was issued a verbal warning for unsafe backing.
Collision In Intersection
Newtown Police report Stephen Barna, 77, of Bethel, operating a 2018 Toyota Rav4, was stopped on Settler’s Lane at the intersection of Toddy Hill Road at 2:22 pm May 22. Jean Johnson, 65, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan, was traveling southbound on Toddy Hill Road. Barna entered the intersection and struck Johnson’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.
Barna was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.
Hit And Run Incident
Newtown Police report Christopher Wells, 24, of Concord, N.H., operating a 2024 Mazda 3, was parked in the lot of 71 South Main Street on May 23. Sometime during the day while unoccupied, the vehicle was struck by a hit and run driver, sustaining damage to the rear bumper.
There were no cameras that witnessed the incident.
If the hit and run operator is located, they will be charged with evading responsibility for causing property damage.
One Injured, Both Vehicles Towed
Newtown Police report Jason Raph, 34, of New Fairfield, operating a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu, was traveling on Homestead Lane and attempting to turn onto South Main Street to enter the northbound lane at 6:38 pm May 26. Ana Santana-Pinheiro, 53, of New Fairfield, operating a 2017 Mazda CX-5, was traveling northbound on South Main Street. As Raph pulled onto South Main Street, his vehicle was struck by Santana-Pinheiro’s vehicle.
Both operators were evaluated by EMS and Raph was transported to Danbury Hospital. Both vehicles were towed.
Raph was issued an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.
Hit Entering Driveway
Newtown Police report Richard Link, 84, of Easton, operating a 2021 Subaru Outback, was traveling northbound on South Main Street, preparing to pull into a driveway, at 6:03 pm May 27. Oscar Figueroa, 54, of Danbury, operating a 2020 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling southbound on South Main Street. Link began to turn left into the driveway when Figueroa’s vehicle struck his vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Link was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.
