Car Hits Guidewire, Rock Wall

Newtown Police report Trevor Dyess, 28, of Derby, operating a 2025 Honda Civic, was traveling easbound on Berkshire Road at 4:40 pm May 22. Dyess crossed the double yellow line and the westbound lane, continuing off the roadway, before striking a mailbox and a guidewire for an Eversource utility pole. Impacting the guide wire caused the vehicle to flip on it's side, after which it struck a rock wall, and came to rest on its driver's side, stuck between the utility pole and the rock wall.

Dyess was treated by EMS and transported to Danbury Hospital with possible injuries. The vehicle was towed.

Dyess was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Hit Turning Into Driveway

Newtown Police report Robert Shields, 50, of Southbury, operating a 2007 Audi A4, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 3:20 pm May 23. Michelle Cyr, 20, of Southington, operating a 2008 Hyundai Elantra, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road. Shields attempted to turn into a private driveway in front of Cyr and the vehicles collided.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.

Shields was issued a written warning for making an improper turn.

Slid Off Wet Roadway Into Trees

Newtown Police report Amanda Faircloth, 16, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 Mini Cooper, was traveling westbound on Sawmill Road at 11:08 pm May 23. While approaching a lefthand turn in the roadway, the vehicle began sliding on the wet surface across the three way intersection with Mt Pleasant Road, and went off the roadway. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle traveled into a ditch and struck two separate trees before coming to rest by a third tree.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Faircloth was issued a verbal warning for traveling unreasonably fast.

Hit Signpost

Newtown Police report Maria Gomes, 25, of Danbury, operating a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 6:19 am May 24. While making a left turn onto Mile Hill Road, Gomes struck a curb, went onto the median, and struck a traffic signpost.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Gomes was issued a verbal warning for making an improper turn.

Reckless Driving, DUI charges

Newtown Police report that officers responded to the area of the intersection of Sugar Street and Head of Meadow Road for a reported motor vehicle crash roll over at 5:14 pm May 25. Upon arrival, the operator was identified as Amber Lebron, 29, of Newington. A criminal investigation resulted in the arrest of Lebron on the charges of reckless driving, illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Lebron was released on a cash bond with a court date of June 10 in Danbury Superior Court.

Two Juveniles Charged With Robbery

Newtown Police report that at approximately 4 pm May 28, officers were dispatched to 49 South Main Street for a report of suspicious activity.

Upon investigation, two Waterbury juveniles were charged with third-degree robbery, third-degree assault, and sixth-degree larceny for forcibly stealing from three Newtown youths.

The two Waterbury juveniles were issued a juvenile summons and are to appear in Waterbury Juvenile Court on June 4.

Hit Utility Pole, Parked Car

Newtown Police report Jeffrey Shantar, 57, of Newtown, was operating his Audi A5 on Walnut Tree Hill Road at 11:34 pm May 30. Shantar went off the roadway before striking a utility pole and an unoccupied, parked vehicle. The impact with the first parked vehicle pushed it into a second parked vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Shantar's vehicle was towed.

Shantar was placed under arrest for illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and making an improper turn.

He was released on a $300 bond with a court date of June 17 in Danbury Superior Court.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Francis Anderson, 42, of Seymour, operating a 2023 Nissan Rogue, was traveling on Nunnawauk Road at 7:46 am May 29. He was behind a 2018 Toyota Sienna operated by Joseane Deoliveira-Almeida, who stopped at the intersection with Wasserman Way, waiting to turn right. Anderson stopped behind her. Deoliveira-Almeida started forward and then stopped again due to westbound traffic, and the front of Anderson's car hit her vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Anderson was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Unsafe Backing

Newtown Police report Lisa Smith, 51, of Newtown, operating a 2015 GMC Yukon, was backing out of a driveway on Ashford Lane at 4:42 pm May 29. An unoccupied 2018 Jeep Compass owned by Firmino Garcia of Newtown was parked on the northbound shoulder of Ashford Lane. Smith backed into Firmino's vehicle and then left the scene. Firmino reported the incident the following day.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Smith was issued an infraction for unsafe backing.

Failure To Maintain Lane

Newtown Police report George Appleby, 54, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2008 Ford Escape, was traveling on Toddy Hill Road in the right left turn lane for Berkshire Road at 1:43 pm May 30. James Stadt, 66, of Derby, operating a 2023 tractor trailer, was a traveling on Toddy Hill Road in the left left turn lane to Berkshire Road. While taking the turn, Appleby drove into the left side of Stadt's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Appleby was issued a written warning for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Went Off Road Into Tree

Newtown Police report Daniel Stutman, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2013 Volkwagen Jetta, was traveling northeast on Boggs Hill Road at 10:33 pm May 31. While negotiating a left hand curve on a down hill stretch, Stutman lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway right, and struck a tree.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Stutman was issued a written warning for failure to maintain the proper lane of travel.
