‘Earnest’ Up Next
Meanwhile, the 2026 Town Players season will continue with a production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. The classic comedy critiques Victorian society through themes of identity, social obligation, and marriage. The plot unfolds with mistaken identities and romantic entanglements, leading to a humorous resolution.
Wilde's work highlights the absurdity of social norms and the superficiality of love, suggesting that appearances often take precedence over truth.
The Town Players cast, being directed by Brian DeToma, will include Liam McGrath as Jack Worthing/”Earnest,” Colin McLoone as Algernon Moncrieff, Miranda Wakeman as Gwendolen Fairfax, Martha Hegley as Cecily Cardew, Angela Mantero as Lady Augusta Bracknell, Kristin Aug as Miss Prism, Chris Bird as Reverend Canon Chasuble, and Shawn Brown as Lane and Merriman.
Performances are planned at The Little Theatre, 18 Orchard Hill Road, October 2-17. Curtain will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 8, and Sunday afternoons at 2. There is also one Thursday evening performance planned for October 15, also at 8 pm.
Tickets are $30 adults, $25 ages 60+, with a buy three get one free offer for those who use discount code Buy3Get1 during online checkout. Visit newtownplayers.org for reservations and additional information, or contact the theater at info@newtownplayers.org for additional information.
