Newtown Public Works wants to remind readers and residents that starting July 1, only town-branded blue bags will be allowed at the Newtown Transfer Station.

For those who do not have bags or a new permit, be sure to make arrangements over the weekend. Starting Tuesday, residents can be fined up to $500, have Transfer Station privileges revoked, and police can be involved for those who do not comply with the new regulations.

Residents who still have orange bags can donate them to public works, use them for storage, or put them inside the blue bags if need be. The new blue bags can be purchased at a few different locations.

*CVS, 6 Queen Street

*Big Y, 6 Queen Street

*Caraluzzi’s Newtown Market, 5 Queen Street

*Newtown Hardware, 61 Church Hill Road

*Stop & Shop, 228 South Main Street

*Walgreens, 49 South Main Street

If these locations are not convenient, residents can purchase the new bags at the Transfer Station as well. Residents still need a permit to use the Transfer Station, but it is now no-cost and lasts for two years rather than one.

The blue bags come in 3 different sizes: 13-gallon, 32-gallon, and 55-gallon. All of the bags are sold in rolls of 10. The 13-gallon bags are $1.05 per bag, 32-gallon bags are $2.60 per bag, and 55-gallon bags are $4.40 per bag.
