Struck Deer

Newtown Police report Evan Bennett, 27, of Brookfield, operating a 2023 Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling northwest on Currituck Road at 3:30 pm July 28. A deer ran into the roadway and collided with the vehicle’s left door.

Bennett was not injured. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Counterfeit Cash Charges

Newtown Police report that at 3:35 pm July 28, officers were dispatched to Newtown Mobil on Church Hill Road for a report of a group of individuals who attempted to purchase merchandise with a counterfeit $100 bill. Prior to police arrival, the complainant reported that the individuals left the scene in a white colored Honda sedan with Massachusetts license plates. They were located across the street at the Wheels Station, where they also purchased goods using a counterfeit $100 bill, and the occupants of the vehicle were detained pending an investigation.

Officers arrested Dawilfry Quezada, 22, of Lawrence, Mass., was arrested and charged with first-degree forgery and sixth-degree forgery.

Also arrested was Jean Michael Warner-Delgado, 19, of Lawrence, Mass., who police say provided false information to an officer about his name with the intent to mislead. Warner-Delgado was charged with interfering with an officer.

Quezada was released on bond with a court date of August 12 in Danbury Superior Court.

Car Hits Motorcycle

Newtown Police report Sebastian Miraglia, 89, of Newtown, operating a 2020 GMC Terrain, was in the driveway of Newtown Power Equipment on Mt Pleasant Road at 2:19 pm July 29. Albert Moran, 61, of Derby, operating a 2007 Yamaha XVS650, was traveling east on Mt Pleasant Road. Miraglia pulled out into the road attempting to turn left and the front of his vehicle struck the side of Moran’s motorcycle.

Moran was treated on scene for minor injuries but declined further care. Neither vehicle was towed.

Miraglia was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way while making a left turn.

Swerved To Avoid Collision, Hit Hydrant

Newtown Police report Katherine Ramsey, 35, of Newtown, operating a 2024 Tesla Model Y, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 4:06 pm July 29. Amy Holt, 42, of Monroe, operating a 2017 Jeep Cherokee, was traveling southbound on South Main Street. Ramsey attempted to turn left onto Country Club Road and struck Holt’s vehicle in spite of Holt’s attempt to swerve out of the way. Holt’s vehicle then exited the southbound travel lane, onto the shoulder, and struck a fire hydrant.

No injuries were reported. Holt’s vehicle was towed from the scene.

Ramsey was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.

Incident In Parking Lot

Newtown Police report John Maher, 79, of Newtown, operating a 1999 Ford F350, was parked in a parking space at 5 Queen Street at 4:20 pm July 29. While exiting the spot, he struck an unoccupied 2025 GMC Sierra owned by Gary Jackman of Sandy Hook. Maher did not realize the collision had occurred and left the scene. Jackman chose not to press charges for evading.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Unlicensed, Unregistered, Uninsured

Newtown Police report on August 1, Newtown Police conducted a traffic stop and arrested the operator, Jason Gagner, 36, of Southbury. Gagner was charged with second-degree failure to appear, operating with a suspended license, misuse of marker plates, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and failure to meet minimum insurance requirements.

Gagner was released on a $2,500 bond and given a court date of August 19 in Danbury Superior Court.

Collided With Guardrail

Newtown Police report Christina Auguste, 20, of Shelton, operating a 2008 Kia Rio, was traveling northbound on Berkshire Road at 6:44 am August 1. While negotiating a righthand curve in the road, Auguste’s vehicle crossed the centerline, ran off the roadway and struck a guardrail.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Auguste was issued an infraction for failure to maintain a lane.

Forgery Charges

Newtown Police report that Karen Koomson, 46, of Spring Water, N.Y., was arrested at 12:59 pm August 1 for attempting to use a false identity to withdraw cash from the Union Savings Bank on Commerce Road. Quick acting employees are able to contact the Newtown Police Department while Koomson was still at the bank.

Koomson was charged with criminal attempt at second-degree larceny, second-degree identity theft, criminal impersonation, and second-degree forgery.

Koomson posted a $50,000 bond with a court date of August 14 in Danbury Superior Court.

Car Strikes Pickup

Newtown Police report Ethan Correia, 23, of Newtown, operating a 2013 Honda Civic, was traveling northbound on Poverty Hollow Road at 1:20 pm July 30. He was traveling behind a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Andrew Litterer, 49, of Newtown. Correia rear-ended Litterer’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Correia was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and Litterer was issued a verbal warning for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
