On Saturday, August 23, Botsford Fire Rescue once again presented its popular Summer Bash on the grounds of the fire station, 315 South Main Street. The event featured a wide variety of dinner items including grilled chicken teriyaki, pulled pork, hamburgers, corn on the cob, hot dogs, drinks, and desserts. There was also live music, a raffle featuring the 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle previously owned by Assistant Chief Pete Blomberg, and a bounce house.

First Selectman Jeff Capeci stopped by the annual event. At 3 pm, he took his seat at the dunk tank and watched as his constituents did their best to dunk him.

A 2008 Harley-Davidson FHLX Street Glide was a raffle item at Botsford’s Annual Summer Bash. This motorcycle was one of Assistant Chief Pete Blomberg’s. Blomberg was killed in a crosswalk in Sandy Hook Center last October. As a way to raise funds and honor his memory, his family sold raffle tickets for $25 a piece. A memory board filled with photos of Blomberg and Botsford Fire Rescue members sat by the rear tire. Blomberg had served with Botsford Fire Rescue for nearly 50 years.

Aaron Nezvesky, the winner of the Harley-Davidson, has been a member of BFR for some years and currently serves as its vice president. He admitted to feeling “a little overwhelmed” when his name was announced as the winner of his late friend and fellow officer’s motorcycle. Proceeds from the Summer Bash and its raffle, which also offered two sizable Amazon gift cards and a $100 gift card from Jewel of Himalaya, will all benefit Botsford Fire Rescue.
