On Wednesday, October 22, 7 pm, C.H. Booth Library will be hosting a virtual author talk with Malala Yousafzai. Yousafzai may be a familiar name to some readers, and that is because she was once called “the world’s most famous teenager.”

In October of 2012, Pakistani educational activist Yousafzai was on a bus in Pakistan’s Swat District after taking an exam when she and two other girls were shot by a Taliban gunman. Yousafzai was targeted because of her educational activism. She was shot in the head and was unconscious in critical condition. After being airlifted to Birmingham, United Kingdom, she made a full recovery and became a more prominent activist.

She wrote and released her first memoir in collaboration with British journalist Christina Lamb titled I Am Malala: The Story of the Girl Who Stood Up for Education and was Shot by the Taliban. Yousafzai’s second book, Finding My Way: A Memoir is set to release on October 21.

Finding My Way is a story of friendship and first love, of anxiety and self-discovery, of trying to stay true to oneself when everyone wants to tell people who they are. In it, Yousafzai traces her path from high school loner to reckless college student to a young woman at peace with her past. Through candid, often messy moments like nearly failing exams, getting ghosted, and meeting the love of her life, Yousafzai reminds readers that real role models are not perfect — they are human.

For those interested in this program, go to chboothlibrary.org to register. Upon registration, attendees will have an opportunity to submit a question to Yousafzai.
