A Letter Of (Re)Introduction
To The Editor:
Hello friends and neighbors, I am Keith Alexander and I am a returning candidate representing District 2 on the Newtown Legislative Council. While I am currently Chair of the Legislative Council, I have previously served the town on the Board of Education for seven years and Board of Finance for four years, including time as Chair on each of those Boards. I have been active in town organizations and supported local businesses as a dedicated member of the community.
For more than thirty years, my wife, Elizabeth, and I have been enjoying all Newtown has to offer from the Arts Festival to the C.H. Booth Library Book Sale, chaperoning school field trips, and joining in the Labor Day Parade. Newtown’s very active volunteering has enriched our town, making these events, and many others, possible.
In my years volunteering and serving on Boards, I have become very familiar with the structure of the Town and BOE finances and budgeting process. From balancing projects and costs in the school district to Town wide planning on debt policy, the Boards I have been on worked through the challenge of balancing revenues and expenditures. My goal is always to do what will be in the best interest of the community.
I have continued this work as a productive member of the Legislative Council by bring compassion and a broad view of the community to policies, ordinances, and challenges that we work on. It’s hard to think locally when so much goes on that seems beyond our control, but local decisions matter. Newtown’s recent community discussions around protests and rallies provided a clear indication, which the Council followed, on the right to unfettered free speech.
Along with the other democrats running for reelection in District 2, Jordana Bloom and Eric Paradis, I will continue our work to support the town, safeguard our schools, protect residents’ rights, and strive to ensure that our town remains affordable. I would be honored to continue to work hard for Newtown if reelected to the Legislative Council.
Please Vote on November 4th and thank you for your support,
Keith Alexander
