To The Editor:

Sixteen years ago, when I moved to Newtown with my family, what began as a short break from my career in science and research quickly became a deeper commitment to our community. I started volunteering, and after the tragedy of December 14, 2012, my involvement in local government deepened significantly.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of serving as Chair of the Board of Education, as a member of the Legislative Council, and now as a Selectperson. These roles have given me insight into how our town operates — and how it can work better for everyone.

What continues to inspire me today is the same thing that first moved me to get involved more than a decade ago: a desire to help people. Whether it’s listening to a resident’s concern, advocating for fair and thoughtful policies, or doing my part to bridge the divisions that have become all too common in public life, I am committed to serving with respect, transparency, and a focus on the greater good.

Though my children are now grown and I’ve returned to my professional work, I remain dedicated to public service. I would be honored to continue that service as a member of the Legislative Council, and I respectfully ask for your support.

Michelle Embree Ku
