To The Editor:

As President of the Newtown Lions Club, I have had the privilege of leading a diverse group of men and women with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences that are united by a desire to help others by serving our community. The Lions motto is “We Serve.”

Service comes in many forms. Some of our members have made the decision to run for office to serve our community by helping to shape policies. This service helps Newtown maintain our way of life and keep our town beautiful.

I’m proud to announce the members who are running for office to serve Newtown.

For First Selectman: Bruce Walczak (D)

For Planning and Zoning: Dave Landau (R)

For Legislative Council: Arnie Berman (D), Chris Gardner (D), and Steve Stolfi (R)

These five candidates have demonstrated again and again their dedication to serving the community and causes greater than themselves.

The Newtown Lions Club is not a political organization, but as an individual and a long time Newtown resident, I have no reservation in recommending these candidates from both major parties to the voters of Newtown.

One of our greatest rights is the right to vote and have a say in the way we wish to live. Please vote this coming election day.
