To The Editor:

Among the more important reasons to come out and vote for Democrats in local elections on Nov 4 is to prevent the leadership of the Republican Party in Newtown from pushing forward with a plan to regulate constitutionally protected speech in Newtown. They have made clear in public statements since the issue arose over the summer that they relish and prioritize the task of hindering or silencing the local opposition to the policies of the current occupant of the White House.

Their half-baked ordinance aimed at free speech rights would be back on the table on Day 1 if MAGA supporters were to control the Legislative Council. It is up to the “mob,” as they call their opponents, to keep them out of office.

Show up on November 4. Show up for Newtown, and show up for Democracy.
