To The Editor:

I am writing to encourage my fellow neighbors to support Steve Goodridge for a third term on Newtown’s Board of Finance. Steve is a dedicated public servant, neighbor, and friend who has already given four years of steady, thoughtful leadership on the Board, including time as Vice Chair and now as Chair. He understands the responsibility that comes with managing taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars and has consistently demonstrated fairness, common sense, and fiscal accountability.

In every conversation I have with Steve, he talks about the importance of working collaboratively with all of Newtown’s boards to balance the needs of the town with the taxpayers’ ability to pay. The key word is balance. Steve is a great listener, and he truly understands the concerns of residents who want tax increases to be gradual and carefully considered. He knows that tough decisions and prioritization are sometimes necessary, and he never loses sight of the people behind the numbers.

I know Steve will continue to work to keep Newtown affordable for seniors, provide our schools with the resources they need so every student can succeed, and promote investments that bring smart growth to town while preserving what people love most about Newtown. He also understands the importance of supporting emergency services, police, and first responders through responsible long-range capital planning.

Steve loves Newtown, and he loves serving the town he has called home for more than 50 years. With Steve continuing to serve on the Board of Finance, I am confident that common-sense, responsible decisions will be made.
