Bruce An Enigma

To The Editor:

I was glad to meet Bruce Walczak recently at the bank because I’d been trying to learn more about him since he announced his run for First Selectman. While he came across as polite, the conversation was underwhelming. He couldn’t articulate a single plan for Newtown and admitted he didn’t see a way to address budget increases. That’s not leadership, it’s resignation.

Curious to see if he had more substance online, I visited his website. It’s a single page with about 80 words of vague fluff. No bio, no platform, no vision. The “About Bruce” link doesn’t work, and the Facebook page it connects to has no posts, no information, just a nice photo of Newtown. The only thing that does work? The donation link. I suppose that’s how he’s funding his signs that are many times two or three in one yard. Certainly, his handlers will fix this, but I have the screenshots, I’m not making this up.

On LinkedIn I saw he worked in relocation for years, but couldn’t find a website for those companies, not that I doubt he worked there. However, it would be helpful to know more about the companies he worked for and his role since he wants to run our town.

Then I read his letter to the editor, where he claims he’ll “fight relentlessly for fully funded, well-vetted school budgets.” Someone should probably inform him that the First Selectman has zero authority over the Board of Education budget. I guess he is not familiar with the role of the First Selectman.

After meeting Bruce and doing my homework, I’ve made up my mind: I AM NOT with Bruce. If you want real leadership and a clear plan for Newtown, visit capecigardnerfornewtown.com. I’ll be voting for Jeff and Charlie
