To The Editor:

I would like to encourage residents of District 3 to support Tom Long for re-election to Newtown’s Legislative Council. I’ve come to know Tom over the past few years, and even without a long personal history, it’s clear he cares deeply about Newtown and approaches his work with integrity and common sense.

This year, Tom is running as an unaffiliated voter, which means he is not tied to any political party. I find that refreshing at a time when many people are looking for leaders who can listen, collaborate, and make decisions based on what’s best for our town. He has proven throughout his current tenure on the Legislative Council that he evaluates input from all sides and believes good ideas should be valued above party politics.

During his time on the Legislative Council, Tom has been described as thoughtful, prepared, and willing to do the homework. He focuses on practical issues that matter to residents — keeping Newtown affordable, protecting open space, and supporting responsible development that maintains the character of our community.

This year, Tom’s name will appear five rows down on the ballot as a petitioning candidate, so voters will need to look a little further to find him. I hope they do, because Tom Long is exactly the kind of steady, community-minded voice we need to remain on the Legislative Council.
