Expresses Disappointment In Capeci And The Bee
To The Editor:
I just wanted to write a brief letter to say how disappointed I was in our current First Selectman, Jeff Capeci, and for that matter, in The Newtown Bee.
Instead of gentlemanly congratulating our newly elected First Selectman, Bruce Walzack, Mr Capeci, stated when he spoke to the Republicans, that he “hoped Mr Walzack could stay up during all the meetings,” referring to the fact that Mr Walzack was older than Mr Capeci. He also said he believed it was a “bad day for Newtown.”
I would have hoped that Mr Capeci would’ve said something like “I will do all I can to make this a smooth transition and help him in any way that I can to serve the Newtown people”.
That would’ve been the gentlemanly, mature, and American way to concede. I am further disappointed that The Newtown Bee chose to publish his childish, ungracious, and unhelpful statement.
Furthermore, Phil Carroll, chairperson of the NRTC, stated that if the Democrats can scream and holler in meetings at the Republicans (which no one seems to remember happening at any meetings), then the Republicans can certainly scream and holler at the Democratic meetings when they take office. Again, what an immature and unhelpful way to serve Newtown.
Is this what we want our children to learn? That when you lose, you whine and try to get back at the person who won? Is this what we mean by “Nicer in Newtown”?
I, for one, am glad that I voted for the Democrats and I’m especially glad that they won!
