Community Center To Host 5th Annual Sip N Shop Holiday Fundraiser

Newtown Community Center has announced the return of its 5th Annual “Sip N Shop” Holiday Fundraiser, scheduled for Friday, December 5, from 5:30-9 pm.

The festive evening brings together local businesses, artisans, and community members for a night of shopping, sipping, and seasonal cheer, all for a great cause, at 8 Simpson Street.

The annual holiday-themed event offers the perfect opportunity to shop from over 50 unique artisans and vendors while enjoying wine, beer, and spirits tastings from more than ten local beverage vendors. Attendees can even place orders for their favorite beverages during the event, ensuring they’re ready for the holidays, whether for entertaining or gift giving.

The event is open exclusively to guests age 21 and over.

Attendees will enjoy tastings of wine, beer, and specialty cocktails from a dozen local alcohol vendors, along with a silent auction, raffles, wine pulls, and the chance to shop for unique holiday gifts from a curated selection of small businesses. From clothing and jewelry to home décor and gourmet treats, there is something for everyone.

The evening will open with an exclusive VIP hour beginning at 5:30 pm, featuring passed hors d’oeuvres, a specialty cocktail presented by Fifth State Distillery, door prizes, and an early preview of the marketplace.

VIP tickets are $45.

Regular admission opens at 6:30; general admission tickets are $25.

Newtown Community Center Director Matt Ariniello says the event “is one of our favorite community traditions.

“It celebrates local businesses and entrepreneurs while supporting families in need — truly reflecting what the Community Center is all about,” he added.

Proceeds from the event directly support The Friends of the Newtown Community Center, which provides financial assistance for local children to attend summer camps, child care, swim lessons, and after-school programs, as well as funds for free community programming and capital improvement projects. Each purchase and partnership helps ensure that every child and family in Newtown has access to safe, enriching, and affordable opportunities year-round.

To add context that did not occur at the meeting would not be an accurate representation of the meeting and would, in fact, be editorializing to shape public opinion. The editorial staff here do not consider ourselves to be final arbiters of what the truth is (and if we did, it would make us partisan and biased), and we would need to provide a source for any dissenting information (sourcing all information in an article is literally Journalism 101). There were no such sources present at the meeting in question, and so it would not be appropriate to include such information in an article about the meeting. Dissenting voices appear in meeting stories when there were active participants with dissenting opinions, such as during public participation or the words of a council member who disagreed. It should be noted that the Interfaith Council, like many local boards and commissions, conduct meetings that are open to the public. This was not an article on the actions of the Greater Danbury Area Unites for Immigrants, or on immigrants, or on ICE's actions in the community, where including other voices or perspectives would be appropriate. Propaganda is the systematic dissemination of information, often biased or misleading, to shape public perception and behavior toward a specific political cause or point of view. I'm not asking for Newtown Bee to editorialize, but providing context, where appropriate, to provide the reader with a more holistic view of the facts seems like a reasonable practice, particularly when encouraging the reader to decide what to believe/not to believe. Absent that context, this feels biased and misleading and intended to shape public perception.

The Newtown Bee reported what was said at a Newtown Interfaith Council meeting. Whether Mr McGillicuddy agrees with what was said or not, reporting what occurs at a public meeting is not "propaganda." Presenting what was said without editorializing is encouraging the reader to decide what to believe or not believe, and is standard for reporting at a community newspaper like The Newtown Bee.

"Abducted by ICE". You mean, when law enforcement enforces the law? This is propaganda passed off as a news article.

I was shocked to read that Chip had died. He was a great and good person in every way. We went to middle and high school together in Newtown. I lost a good friend and the world lost a great person. RIP.......Chip William St Arnauld Charlotte, NC
