NYFS Next Sibshops On January 13
On Tuesday, January 13, Newtown Youth & Family Services (NYFS) will host Sibshops, a celebration of the lifelong contributions made by siblings of people who have special health and developmental needs.
During Sibshops, siblings are provided with others for peer support and information in a lively, recreational setting. They are “pedal-to-the-metal” events where participants can meet others who understand, or can relate to, their situation. Attendees can have fun while also discussing the good and not-so-good parts of having a sibling with special needs. The peer-support environment also allows individuals to share how they handle hard situations faced by siblings with special needs. Participants can also learn about services available to their sibling(s) with special needs, all while playing games and finding community support.
Sibshops are for children ages 9-14 and meet on the second Tuesday of every month. The meetings are $15. For more information, please contact Adrienne Kraus at akraus@newtownyouthandfamilyservices.org or 203-270-4335.
