Struck Tree
Newtown Police report Yeury Dilone, 25, of Trumbull, operating a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling north on Toddy Hill Road at 11:55 am December 14. Dilone lost control of the vehicle due to weather conditions and ran off the road at the intersection of Meadow Woods Lane and Toddy Hill Road, where it struck a tree and became stuck in a ditch.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Dilone was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Blowing Snow Causes Collision
Newtown Police report Ronald Frate, 58, of Newtown, operating a 2025 Ford F250, was in a driveway on Bears Hill Road at 1:34 pm December 14. Elizabeth Losito, 54, of Newtown, operating a 2022 Kia Soul, was traveling westbound on Bears Hill Road. Both operators said they were unable to see clearly due to blowing snow conditions and did not see each other, whereupon they collided as Frate left the driveway.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Evading Vehicle
Newtown Police report an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on Jordan Hill Road at 6:34 pm December 14. Lauren McMahon, 30, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2016 Subaru Legacy, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road near the intersection with Jordan Hill Road. The unknown vehicle stopped at the stop sign on Jordan Hill Road and then continued onto Berkshire Road, where it was struck by McMahon’s vehicle, back to front. The unknown vehicle continued off the westbound shoulder of Berkshire Road and collided with a mailbox before it left the scene.
No injuries were reported. McMahon’s vehicle was not towed.
Due to lack of physical evidence and witnesses, the case was closed without identifying the unknown vehicle.
Both Drivers Cited
Newtown Police report Arthur Palace, 42, of Bridgeport, operating a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder, was traveling southbound on Hattertown Road at 7:30 am December 16. Deja Pue, 32, of Ansonia, operating a 2007 Mazda 3, was traveling northbound on Hattertown Road,While negotiating a left-hand curve, Palace crossed the centerline and entered the northbound lane, where the Pathfinder struck Pue’s vehicle.
Pue was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed.
Palace was issued an infraction for failure to drive right. Pue was issued a misdemeanor summons for operating with a suspended license, operation without minimum insurance, and operation of an unregistered motor vehicle.
Pue was released on a promise to appear and given a court date of December 30 in Danbury Superior Court.
Avoided One Collision To End Up In Another
Newtown Police report Sheila Reuther, 42, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2025 Chevrolet Traverse, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 6:17 pm December 16. She was traveling behind a 2019 Audi Q7 operated by Claire Horner, 76, of Sandy Hook. Horner said a vehicle pulled out in front of her, causing her to brake suddenly to avoid a collision, but was then rear-ended by Reuther.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Reuther was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
Collision In Parking Lot
Newtown Police report Elizabeth Silva, 37, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, was parked in a parking spot in the parking lot of 8 Simpson Street at 10:35 am December 20. Angra Moreira-Damascen, 34, of Newtown, operating a 2023 Toyota Corolla, was traveling northbound in the same lot. Silva backed into Moreira-Damascen’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Three Car Parking Lot Collision
Newtown Police report Carolyn Cruson, 72, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Subaru Forester, was parked in a lot on Main Street at 11:44 am December 22. Elizabeth Yohan, 79, of Ridgefield, operating a 2020 Lexus GS, was traveling northbound in the same lot. An unoccupied 2021 Chevrolet Suburban owned by Antonio Hallak of Newtown was parked in a spot next to Cruson’s vehicle. As Yohan was attempting to drive past Cruson, Cruson pulled forward and struck Yohan’s vehicle. The collision pushed Yohan’s vehicle to the right, where it also struck Hallak’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. None of the vehicles were towed.
Enforcement action was not taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Incident In Parking Lot
Newtown Police report Gaviria Bejarano, 25, of Newtown, operating a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse, was parked in a marked parking spot in the parking lot at 5 Queen Street at 1:23 pm December 22. Janice Lombardo, 61, of Monroe, operating a 2016 Lincoln MKC, was stopped in a travel lane, dropping off a passenger. Bejarano began backing out of the parking space and struck Lombardo’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Three Car Collision
Newtown Police report Peter Brown, 40, of Norwalk, operating a 2024 Ford Transit, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 6:01 pm December 22. He was traveling behind a 2012 Jeep Wrangler operated by Brad Meling, 48, of Newtown, who in turn was behind a 2012 Ford Fusion operated by Rudyard Boothe, 34, of Watertown. Brown rear-ended Meling, who in turn rear-ended Boothe.
Boothe and two passengers were transported to Danbury Hospital with possible injuries. Brown’s and Boothe’s vehicles were towed.
Brown was issued a written warning for following too close. Meling was issued a verbal warning for evading responsibility for property damage.
Hit Sign, Pole
Newtown Police report Kenneth Lucuk, 20, of Southbury, operating a 2022 Ford F350, was traveling southbound on Hattertown Road at 8:14 am December 23. Lucuk began to turn right on Purdy Station Road and began to slide toward the stop sign. The vehicle left the roadway and struck the stop sign and a small wooden utility pole not connected to any electrical wires or communication lines.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.
Lucuk was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Too Fast For Conditions
Newtown Police report Rohan Nagrath, 34, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2017 Honda Pilot, was traveling northbound on Yogananda Street at 9:01 am December 23. Olivia Wood, 28, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2021 Volvo V60, was traveling westbound on Silo Road, and was coming to a stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Yogananda Road. Wood’s vehicle was then struck by Nagrath’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.
Nagrath was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Resisting Arrest/DUI Charges
Newtown Police report that at 6:22 pm December 23, officers responded to Ridge Road in regards to an incident where a motor vehicle struck a residence and then left the location. Police determined that David Koehler struck the right side of his garage, causing damage to the exterior of his house. Police searched for Koehler, and later located him returning to his residence, where he failed to stop for police who initiated a traffic stop, engaged officers in pursuit, and failed to obey officers while making a lawful arrest. It was also determined that Koehler had consumed alcohol prior to driving and he was subsequently arrested.
Koehler was charged with interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, engaging police in pursuit, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Koehler was held in custody after not being able to post a $5,000 bond. He was given a court date of December 24 in Danbury Superior Court.
Rear Ended On Mt Pleasant
Newtown Police report Anthony Schmeltz, 21, of Oxford, operating a 2001 Honda Accord, was traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 7:03 am December 25. He was traveling behind a 2024 Cadillac Escalade operated by Angela Curi, 47, of Newtown. Curi slowed to make a left turn onto Taunton Lane and Schmeltz did not slow in time, rear ending Curi’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Schmeltz was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Collided With Mailbox, Stone Wall
Newtown Police report Tingo Rea, 40, of Danbury, operating a 2000 Honda CR-V, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 6:29 pm December 26. Rea left the westbound lane and crossed over the eastbound lane, before striking a mailbox and stone wall.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Rea was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Struck Deer
Newtown Police report Mary Alves, 56, of Newtown, operating a 2020 Jeep Cherokee, was traveling northbound on Dinglebrook Lane at 7:03 pm December 28. A deer entered the roadway and was struck by Alves’ vehicle. The deer was on the shoulder of the road when police arrived.
Alves was not injured. The vehicle was not towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
