Pedestrian Hit, Gets Warning
Newtown Police report Christopher Kane, 51, of Newtown, operating a 2020 GMC Canyon, was traveling eastbound on Mile Hill Road at 5:07 pm January 14. A pedestrian, Mark Galaburri, 60, of Monroe, was crossing Mile Hill Road north to south. Kane’s vehicle struck Galaburri.
Galaburri was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries. The vehicle was not towed.
Galaburri was issued a verbal warning for reckless use of a highway by a pedestrian.
Slid Into Stop Sign
Newtown Police report Cody Taylor, 36, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado, was traveling westbound on Hawleyville Road at 12:43 am January 17. Taylor turned right onto Farrell Road and began to slide sideways, exiting the roadway left and striking a stop sign.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Too Fast For Conditions
Newtown Police report Tusa Guamarrigra, 23, of Brookfield, was traveling southbound on Obtuse Road at 11:49 am January 17. While negotiating a left hand curve, the vehicle started to slide on the snow covered roadway, entered the southbound shoulder, and struck a right arrow sign. The vehicle then traveled down an embankment before stopping.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Guamarrigra was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.
Left Driveway, Hit By Bus
Newtown Police report John Payne, 25, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, was traveling southbound in a driveway on Mt Pleasant Road at 12:26 pm on January 17. Leslie Hornberger, 57, of Harwinton, operating a 2016 Blue Bird school bus, was traveling westbound on Mt Pleasant Road. Payne tried to stop before entering the roadway, but, because of the snow, skidded onto Mt Pleasant Road. Hornberger swerved left to avoid a collision but was unable to and struck Payne’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Payne was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way from a private driveway.
Mirror Hit Mailbox
Newtown Police report Stephanie Rickard, 51, of Newtown, operating a 2019 Vokswagen Tiguan, was traveling northbound on Currituck Road at 12:53 pm January 17. While negotiating a left hand curve, the vehicle slid on the snow and entered the shoulder, where the passenger’s side side view mirror struck a mailbox.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.
Rickard was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Struck Sign, Stump
Newtown Police report Michael Craft, 23, of Shelton, operating a 2011 CR-V, was traveling southbound on Berkshire Road at 1:48 pm January 17. The vehicle took a right onto Jordan Hill Road, slid on snow, and struck a posted speed limit sign and a tree stump.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Collision In Intersection
Newtown Police report Kylie Badolato, 22, of Monroe, operating a 2013 Hyundai Tucson, was traveling southbound on Berkshire Road at 2 pm January 17. Michael Craft, 23, of Shelton, operating a 2011 CR-V, was stopped in front of a home on Jordan Hill Road from a previous collision. Badolato took a right onto Jordan Hill Road and began to slide, striking Craft’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.
No enforcement action was taken due to adverse weather conditions.
Stuck On Guardrail
Newtown Police report Collin Ouimette, 20, of Newtown, operating a 2010 Honda CR-V, was traveling eastbound on Schoolhouse Road at 3:15 pm January 17. Ouimette was negotiating a left-hand curve in the road when the vehicle started to slide, striking a metal beam guardrail end. The vehicle continued to travel eastbound with the left front tire riding on the metal beam guardrail, where it came to rest.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Ouimette was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Car Vs Tree
Newtown Police report Victor Cervantes, 56, of Bridgeport, operating a 2022 Ford Explorer, was traveling on Mt Pleasant Road at 8:25 pm January 18. The vehicle slid on the snow covered road and struck a tree.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Skidded Into Fence
Newtown Police report Camily Aguiar, 22, of Seymour, operating a 2015 Honda Accord, was traveling eastbound on Chestnut Hill Road at 10:11 pm January 18. While attempting to negotiate a curve, the vehicle swerved, crossed the center lane and the westbound lane, and left the roadway, where it struck a fence.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Aguiar was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Left Road, Struck Stump
Newtown Police report Leopoldo Yabarescribanel, 65, of White Plains, N.Y., operating a 2009 Toyota Yaris, was traveling northbound on Gelding Hill Road at 1:13 pm January 19. While negotiating a left-hand curve on the snow covered roadway, Yabarescribanel’s vehicle slid down the roadway, ran off the roadway, and struck a tree stump.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Yabarescribanel was issued a verbal warning for failure to maintain a lane.
Car Collides With House
Newtown Police report Shamar Anderson, 38, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2002 Toyota Tundra, was traveling eastbound on Toddy Hill Road at 1:44 pm January 19. The vehicle skidded on ice and lost control, then over corrected and entered a yard before striking the front stairs and porch of a home. The homeowner was not at home, so a note was left with contact information.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.
No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.
Rear Ended On Mt Pleasant
Newtown Police report Efrain Delacruz, 35, of Metuchen, N.J., operating a 2015 Volvo VNL, was traveling westbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 5:20 pm January 19. He was traveling behind a 2026 BMW X3 operated by Ashley Heimbuecher, 35, of Danbury. Heimbuecher stopped in traffic and Delacruz attempted to brake but slid, rear ending Heimbuecher’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Delacruz was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Gregory Petriccione, 49, of Brookfield, operating a 2023 Ram 3500, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 5:31 pm January 19. He was traveling behind a 2024 Genesis Gv70 operated by Kathryn Fredericks, 65, of Brookfield, who was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Main Street. The snow plow on the front of Petriccione’s vehicle struck the right rear bumper of Fredericks’ vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Petriccione was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
