SOUTHBURY — Alexander CHAN Wai-Kei, beloved father and husband, passed away peacefully at Saint Mary Hospital surrounded by his family on February 9, 2026, at the age of 68.

Alex was born on January 1, 1958, the only child of the late CHAN Kin-Kun and HO Wai-Yin. He graduated from Saint Louis School in Hong Kong and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from the University of London. While he was studying for his PhD in biochemistry at the Imperial College, London, he met and married his wife, Yin-Fei.

He began his career at Jebsen & Company Limited in Hong Kong in 1983, where he was responsible for the products of DuPont Company. On December 8, 1990, Alex moved to Toronto and worked at Toronto General Hospital. Three years later, he was licensed as clinical chemist. He relocated to Connecticut and worked for the Dupont Company in Newtown as a product specialist in 1994. Following a corporate restructuring, he changed jobs and worked at Corning Incorporated in New Jersey for more than a decade. He travelled extensively to the Asia Pacific on business. Alex later began working for Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc as senior life science specialist since 2019. Through dedication and hard work, he expressed enthusiasm for medical and scientific advancements.

His love for science, travel, and history made family gatherings memorable. He had a special love for the Blessed Mother Mary. When he went to Portugal on business, he took a trip to Fatima and brought a tall statue of Our Lady of Fatima home. He was a lifelong fan of Lego and visited Legoland in Denmark with his son, Julian. His other hobbies included sketching, watercolor painting, and gardening. Sudoku was his nightly oasis.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, William (Chi-Wang), Julian (Chi-Jun); and daughter, Elizabeth; as well as two brothers-in-law, WAI Kin-Chung (Shui-Ying), WAI Kin-Hung (Hong-Mui); sisters-in-law, WAI Yin-Yee (Gary), the late WAI Yin-Ling (the late Hing-Lau); and three nieces and nephews, Delon, Dekki, and Lucas.

Alex was predeceased by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 20, at 10:30 am, at Saint Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road in Newtown.

Funeral arrangements are in care of Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown.
