Collision In Intersection

Newtown Police report Nichole Urbanski, 34, of West Hartford, operating a 2022 Nissan Kicks, was stopped on the Interstate 84 West Exit 9 off ramp at 8:48 am February 4. Jack Newton, 23, of Dublin, Ireland, was stopped southbound on Hawleyville Road at the intersection with the Exit 9 on-ramp. Urbanski entered the intersection to turn left onto Hawleyville Road and struck the rear bumper of Newton’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Urbanski was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Forged License Plate

Newtown Police report that on February 11, officers observed a vehicle on Church Hill Road with a “fictitious license plate” attached to it, according to the report. Further investigation revealed that the driver, Drew Larowe, 36, of Newtown, also had a suspended driver’s license and the vehicle was unregistered.

Larowe was arrested and charged with third-degree forgery, operation under suspension, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

He was released on a promise to appear and was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on February 25.

Rear Ended On Church Hill

Newtown Police report Mylene Malouf, 45, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 Range Rover Sport, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 8:02 am February 12. He was traveling behind a 2018 Hyundai Tucson operated by Erin McGowan, 40, of Sandy Hook. McGowan stopped behind another vehicle at the intersection of Edmond Road. The other vehicle accelerated and then stopped for an unknown reason. McGowan stopped behind, but Malouf did not stop in time and struck the rear of McGowan’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Malouf was issued an infraction for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

Struck Utility Pole

Newtown Police report Sergejs Junevics, 46, of Monroe, operating a 2006 Ford Expedition, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 8:55 am February 12. Junevics’ vehicle traveled off the westbound should and struck a utility pole.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Junevics was issued an infraction for failure to travel in the established lane and using an electronic device while driving.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report John Latte, 59, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Hyundai Tucson, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 7:59 am February 13. He was traveling behind a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia operated by Joseph Canela, 44, of Intercession City, Fla. Canela slowed for traffic and Latte struck the rear of Canela’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Latte was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Struck Snow Embankment

Newtown Police report Zamora Procel, 45, of Naugatuck, operating a 2024 Toyota Corolla, was traveling southbound on Botsford Hill Road at 6:15 am February 15. Procel went off the road right and into a snow embankment.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Procel was issued an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Rear Ended At Red Light

Newtown Police report Rondon Gonzalez, 25, of Naugatuck, operating a 2020 Honda Accord, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 9:33 am February 15. She was traveling behind a 2013 Cadillac XTS operated by Miguel Santa Cruz, 61, of Bridgeport. Santa Cruz stopped at a red light and Gonzalez struck the rear of his vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Gonzalez was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Failure To Appear Charge

Newtown Police report that officers served an active arrest warrant on Annamaria Pompa, 64, of Sandy Hook, at 10:31 am February 16 at her home. Pompa was transported to Newtown Police Department and charged with second-degree failure to appear.

She was released on a court set bond of $10,000 with a court date of March 4 in Danbury Superior Court.

Violation Of Probation Charge

Newtown Police report on February 15, Paul Carpenter, 63, of Sarasota, Fla, turned himself in to Newtown Police Department on an active warrant for his arrest. He was processed and charged with violations of probation. He was released on a court bond of $10,000 with a court date of March 4 in Danbury Superior Court.

Incident In Driveway

Newtown Police report Bernard Lesson, 83, of Southbury, operating a 2022 Ford Escape, was pulling out of a parking lot on Church Hill Road attempting to make a right hand turn at 1:32 pm February 16. Caelan Hart, 21, of Redding, operating a 2009 Toyota Prius, pulled to the right of Lesson’s vehicle, between it and a snow bank, also attempting to make a right hand turn. Hart said Lesson turned and struck the front of his vehicle. Lesson said Hart struck the side of his vehicle as it was trying to pass him on the right.

Officers determined that CCTV video showed Lesson turning and striking the front of Hart’s vehicle as Hart was waiting to make a turn.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Isaiah Araujo, 28, of Wolcott, operating a 2009 Honda Accord, was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 6:51 pm on February 18. He was traveling behind a 2021 Mazda CX5 operated by Gianna Servedio, 22, of Mahopac, N.Y. Servedio stopped in the northbound travel lane at the intersection of Berkshire Road to make a right-hand turn. Araujo was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of Servedio’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Araujo’s vehicle was towed.

Araujo was issued an infraction for following too close.

Backed Into Car

Newtown Police report Alex Candelaria, 30, of Norwalk, operating a 2016 Ford F550, was stopped northbound on Queen Street at 1:10 pm February 19. Ryan Ool, 41, of Stormville, N.Y., operating a 2016 Subaru CTK, was stopped behind. Candelaria attempted to back up to allow a southbound vehicle to make a turn in front of them and backed into Ool’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Candelaria was issued a verbal warning for unsafe backing.

Kia Hits Buick

Newtown Police report Patricia Bauer, 74, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Kia Sportage, was traveling eastbound on Hawleyville Road at 5:52 pm February 19. Aner Bajraktarevic, 28, of Waterbury, operating a 2016 Buick Regal, was stopped at a stop sign on Covered Bridge Road facing southbound. Bauer attempted to turn left onto Covered Bridge Road and struck Bajraktarevic’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Bauer was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way while making a left turn.

Too Fast For Conditions

Newtown Police report Daniel Molinaro, 27, of Redding, operating a 2015 BMW 428xi, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 2:58 am February 21. While attempted to make a left turn onto Orchard Hill Road, Molinaro went off the road and struck a snow bank.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Molinaro was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Collision In Gas Station

Newtown Police report Yasmin Colmenarez-Agu, 62, of White Plains, N.Y., operating a 2009 Honda Civic, was parked at a pump in a gas station on Hawleyville Road at 5:20 pm on February 21. Jeffrey Chontos, 41, of Brookfield, operating a 2011 Ford F150, was attempting to enter the parking lot. Colmanarez-Agu attempted to leave the pump and struck Chontos’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Chotos’ vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Slid On Snowy Driveway

Newtown Police report Jose Plaza, 30, of Danbury, operating a 2006 Toyota Tundra, was traveling in a driveway on Hattertown Road at 5:51 pm February 22. The vehicle slid off the snow covered, steep downhill driveway and collided with a tree.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Failure To Maintain Proper Lane

CT State Police report a 2022 Freightliner tractor-trailer truck being operated by Jaswant Singh, 27, was traveling on I-84 East, east of Exit 11 in Newtown, in the center lane of three, around 6:42 pm Saturday, February 21.

At the same time, a 2009 Honda Civic LX being operated by John A. Esposito, 36, of Shelton, was traveling on I-84 East, east of Exit 11, in the right lane.

The Freightliner merged into the right lane, side-swiping the Honda. No injuries were reported on scene. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Singh was found at fault for the collision and issued a written warning for Failure to Maintain Proper Lane.
