Distracted Driving
Newtown Police report James Trusock, 30, of Bethel, operating a 2014 Mazda 3, was traveling eastbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 7:16 am February 9. He was traveling behind a 2016 Ford Escape operated by Karisah Chery, 19, of Brookfield. Donna Linnen, 58, of Newtown, operating a 2024 Ford Escape, was traveling westbound on Mt Pleasant Road. Trusock said his lunchbox shifted in his car and he went to fix it, and struck Chery's car, who was stopped in traffic. Chery's car was pushed forward into the westbound lane where it struck Linnen's car head on.
Linnen was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. All three vehicles were towed.
Trusock was issued an infraction for following too close and distracted driving.
Improper Backing
Newtown Police report Christopher Symes, 42, of Newtown, operating a 2001 Dodge RAM, was backing out of a driveway on Church Hill Road at 8:38 am February 25. Armando Machado, 40, of Prospect, operating a 2007 Honda Fit, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road in slow moving traffic. Symes backed into Machado's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Symes was issued a verbal warning for improper backing.
Struck Tree
Newtown Police report Michael Rothfield, 55, of Campbell Hall, NY, operating a 2019 GMC Canyon, was traveling eastbound on Jordan Hill Road behind a non-contact vehicle at 10:30 am February 25. The road was snow covered and slippery. Both Rothfield and the non-contact vehicle attempted to avoid a second-non-contact vehicle that was sliding in the snow; all vehicles avoided one another but Rothfield went off the road, striking a tree, before continuing and coming to rest in the eastbound travel lane.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Slid On Ice Into Intersection
Newtown Police report Maria Cedeno, 29, of Brookfield, operating a 2015 Honda CR-V, was traveling southbound on Tower Road at 8:17 am February 26. Steven Fancher, 49, of Bethel, operating a 2024 Subaru Forester, was traveling on Obtuse Road. As Cedeno approached the intersection with Obtuse Road, her vehicle slid on ice through the stop sign and collided with Fancher's vehicle.
Cedeno was transported to Danbury Hospital with possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed.
No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.
Trailer Hits Car
Newtown Police report Raymond Garcia, 34, of Meriden, operating a 2009 Freightliner M2 105 towing a trailer, was in a side parking lot of 228 South Main Street. A 2024 Chevrolet Camaro owned by Gary Laychak of Bridgeport was parked in the same lot. While making a left hand turn, the trailer struck the rear of Laychak's vehicle. Garcia then left the parking lot. A witness saw the collision and police later located the operator.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Rear Ended On Hanover
Newtown Police report John Perez-Reyes, 22, of New Milford, operating a 2007 Honda Odyssey, was traveling on Hanover Road at 2:38 pm February 26. Jesse Gerardi, 38, of Newtown, operating a 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan, was stopped on Hanover Road waiting to take a turn into a driveway. Perez-Reyes rear-ended Gerardi's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Perez-Reyes' vehicle was towed.
Perez-Reyes was issued an infraction for driving without a license and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Restricted Turn
Newtown Police report James Strong, 32, of Seymour, operating a 2012 Buick Lacrosse, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 4:01 am February 28. The vehicle went off the road and came to rest in some bushes in a culvert, off the side of the road.
Strong was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn and failure to wear a seatbelt.
Reversed Into Car
Newtown Police report Katelyn Murray, 30, of Bethel, operating a 2018 Mazda CX-5, was traveling southbound in the parking lot of 105 Church Hill Road. A 2009 Honda CR-V owned by Kent Williams of Danbury was parked unoccupied in the same lot. While attempting to reverse, Murray backed into William's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
DUI Charges
Newtown Police report that on February 28, Angela Ferrigno, 32, of Brookfield, was arrested by Torrington Police and since an active warrant was in place by Newtown Police Department, Torrington contacted Newtown and custody was exchanged.
Ferrigno was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to drive in the proper lane, and second-degree violation of conditions of release.
Ferrigno was processed and held in custody after not being able to post a $25,000 bond. She was given a court date of March 2 in Danbury Superior Court.
Too Fast For Conditions
Newtown Police report Noelle Marrazzo, 19, of Newtown, operating a 2012 Jeep Liberty, was traveling westbound on Riverside Road at 4:13 pm March 3. Marrazzo ran off the road and struck a street sign.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.
Marrazzo was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
