Irma Jean Richards, 70, passed away on March 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Irma was born in St. Albans Vermont, in 1955, to Harvey and Lillian Poquette. After her mother’s unexpected death, Irma and her father moved to New Milford in 1973. There she graduated from St. Joseph High School. While working at the Fireside Inn in Newtown, Irma met the love of her life, Louie Richards, and they were married on May 17, 1975, and remained together for more than 38 years, until Lou’s sudden passing in 2013.

Within that time, they shared many adventures and memories together and with their son’s: Christopher Richards of Simpsonville S.C., his wife Amanda, and their daughter Savannah; Conrad Richards of Newtown, his wife Ruth, their son Tyler, and daughter Sabrina.

Later in life, Irma was again blessed with an additional love, shared between her and Phil Bowler of Newtown for the last 8 years. To help support the family over the years, Irma worked at Ashlar of Newtown for 10 years and then TJ Maxx of Newtown for 30 years, from which she retired.

Once she retired, she was able to fully enjoy her time with family, friends, and travel. Irma was known throughout the area as one of the sweetest, kindest, loving, and gentle souls. She will be missed by all who know her.

She is survived by her older sisters, Teresa and Evelyn of northern Vermont, as well as multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the eastern seaboard.

In lieu of a service, the family has requested that to honor their mother, family and friends donate gently used clothing to their local thrift shops, as this was one of Irma’s favorite places to find amazing and unique outfits. The family would also like to give thanks for all the blessings and messages of support during this trying time.
