Struck Two Mailboxes
Newtown Police report Idris Seljmani, 76, of Newtown, operating a 2006 Honda CR-V, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 4:10 pm March 2. Seljmani's vehicle ran off the roadway and struck two mailboxes, coming to a stop near the intersection with Glover Avenue.
Seljmani was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible minor injuries. The vehicle was towed.
Enforcement action is pending.
Improper Turn
Newtown Police report Elaine Espinosa, 20, of Waterbury, operating a 2018 Honda Accord, was traveling eastbound on Botsford Hill Road at 3:56 pm March 10. While negotiating a curve in the roadway, Espinosa lost control of the vehicle and went straight, striking an embankment.
Espinosa was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. The vehicle was towed.
Espinosa was issued a verbal warning for making an improper turn.
Struck Guardrail, Went Into Woods
Newtown Police report Deize Goncalves, 44, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica, was traveling westbound on South Main Street at 3:27 pm March 13. The vehicle veered slightly onto the right shoulder, striking the beginning of a guardrail. After impacting the guardrail, the vehicle traveled from the westbound lane across the roadway onto the curb area, coming to rest in a wooded area.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Goncalves was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.
E-Bike Impacts Car
Newtown Police report a 14-year-old minor was riding a electric bicycle with a minor passenger on Castle Hill in the eastbound travel lane at 4:25 pm March 13. Kara Gerace, 64, of Newtown, operating a 2022 Honda HR-V, was traveling in the westbound travel lane on Castle Hill Road. The minor bicyclist crossed over into the westbound lane and struck Gerace's vehicle. Neither minor bicyclist or passenger were able to provide police with any account of how the incident occurred, though a witness was able to provide an account.
Both the minor bicyclist and passenger were transported to Danbury Hospital with possible injuries. Gerace's vehicle was not towed.
The minor bicyclist was found at fault and issued a summons for operation of a motor-driven cycle without a license and failure to wear protective headgear. The minor passenger was issued a summons for failure to wear protective headgear and being a passenger on an e-bike under 18 years of age.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Summer Dachenhausen, 41, of Newtown, operating a 2009 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 2:31 pm March 14. She was traveling behind a 2010 Ford Fusion operated by Anselmo Almeida, 38, of Bridgeport. Almeida applied his brakes suddenly and Dachenhausen rear-ended his vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Almeida's vehicle was towed.
Dachenhausen was issued an infraction for following too close.
Almeida was issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Unregistered Driver Rear-Ends Dodge
Newtown Police report Geyner Urbina, 24, of Bridgeport, operating a 2003 GMC Savanna, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 5:11 pm March 16. He was traveling behind a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan operated by Maribel Ortega-Ventura, 50, of Bridgeport. Ortega-Ventura began to slow for traffic ahead and was struck from behind by Urbina.
Ortega-Ventura was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Neither vehicle was towed.
Urbina was issued an infraction for following too close, operating without a license, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Hit Guard Rail, Support Pole
Newtown Police report Michael Jarrett, 32, of Bridgeport, operating a 2020 Hyundai Palisade, was traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 10:53 pm March 16. While negotiating a left-hand curve, Jarrett exited the roadway right, and struck a guardrail end. After striking the guardrail, the vehicle then struck a utility pole's support pole before continuing a couple of hundred feet down an embankment and turning onto its side.
Jarrett was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. The vehicle was towed.
Jarrett was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
