At least one person was disappointed to learn they could not buy Girl Scout cookies when they drove to the lower driveway of Reed Intermediate School late Saturday morning. Banner flags and lawn signs proclaiming Girl Scout Cookie Time had been placed at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Trades Lane, and then directed drivers to the lower driveway of the school, but they were only intended to help leaders of regional troops find their deliveries.

For three hours on March 14, cases of cookies were unloaded from a pair of tractor-trailer trucks, carefully counted, and doled out to representatives of Girl Scout troops in Newtown, Danbury, Bethel and Ridgefield. Newtown served as one of 18 locations across the state to host a Cookie Drop. Girls Scouts of Connecticut Inc last week said it planned to dispense nearly one million packages of cookies across the state.

Locally the process went very smoothly, even ending an hour earlier than planned. The distribution point at Reed School packed up shortly after 11 am.

According to Girl Scouts of Connecticut, 76,472 cases — or over 917,000 packages of cookies — were delivered through the pop-up locations across the state Saturday morning. Newtown alone accounted for 3,385 cases of cookies.

Cookie sales began within just a few hours and now continue weekends through at least April 10.

According to girlscouts.org, Newtown sales planned for Friday, March 20, all 5-9 pm, include booths at Gino’s Pizza, 102 Church Hill Road; My Place Pizza, 8 Queen Street; NewSylum Brewing, 36 Keating Farms Avenue; and Tambascio’s Italian Grill, 1 Dodgingtown Road.

Saturday, March 21, 8-11 am, Bagel Delight, 30 Church Hill Road; 10 am-1 pm, Blue Colony Diner, 66 Church Hill Road; 8 am-2 pm, Dunkin, 6 Queen Street, and Tractor Supply Company, 116 South Main Street; noon-4 pm, Angelina’s Italian Deli, 150 South Main Street; 5-9 pm, My Place Restaurant; and 5:30-9 pm, NewSylum Brewery.

Sunday, March 22, 8-11 am, Bagel Delight and Dunkin; 11 am-2 pm, Tractor Supply Company; and 2-7 pm, NewSylum Brewery.

Additional Newtown sales locations this cookie season will include Carminuccio’s Newtown Market, Dickinson Park, Mitchell Hawleyville Deli & Café, Newtown Community Center, Newtown Hardware, Starbucks, and Stop & Shop. Watch for Scouts and signs or visit girlscouts.org to find specific locations and times.

Monica Wieleba-Andersen (kneeling, center), delivery site manager for Newtown and leader of Cadette Troop 50113, was the on-site coordinator for Girl Scouts of Connecticut’s Cookie Drop at Reed School on March 14. In just three hours she and the others pictured dispensed more than 3,300 cases of cookies to Girl Scout troops from Newtown, Bethel, Danbury, and Ridgefield, officially launching the 2026 sales season. —Bee Photo, Hicks
