To The Editor:

As a voter who wants to see meaningful progress for Newtown, I attended the recent Democratic primary debate with one goal: to understand which candidate is truly prepared to deliver results at the State level. After listening closely, I left with a clear impression based on the experience each candidate described. From what was presented, Brandon Moore stood out as the candidate with the depth of state‑level knowledge and hands‑on policy experience needed to be effective immediately in Hartford.

Michelle Embree Ku has served in local elected roles and on various committees, and that service is part of her public record. Still, many residents continue to ask whether that local experience has translated into measurable improvements in daily life. Housing affordability, energy costs, and traffic remain persistent concerns for families across Newtown. During the debate, she emphasized the importance of working with Republicans, but some voters may still be wondering what specific outcomes that collaboration has produced and whether it has resulted in concrete benefits for the community. These are reasonable questions for anyone seeking higher office.

Brandon Moore’s background, as he described it, centers on direct involvement in Connecticut state government. After serving in the Army, he worked in the administration of Governor Ned Lamont, where he helped lead initiatives connecting residents to jobs by coordinating housing support, transportation access, and apprenticeship opportunities. This reflects firsthand experience with the State policy‑making process and the practical challenges of implementing programs that affect thousands of people.

He has also built relationships with state and local leaders who have seen his work up close. For voters who prioritize readiness, state‑level experience, and demonstrated impact, these elements may stand out.

For me, after hearing both candidates, the choice is Brandon Moore.
