To The Editor:

On Monday May 4, at 7PM, there will be the second of two forums at the Community Center with the two candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for State Representative for Newtown. There’s a lot of excitement about this; both Michelle Embree Ku and Brandon Moore are outstanding candidates! They’re both strong defenders of democracy who believe in protecting the environment, protecting us from gun violence, and protecting women’s reproductive rights. Our current representative has voted against all of these important protections. It’s time for change, so we can have a strong voice for Newtown in Hartford.

Michelle has been part of Newtown’s government for over a decade, winning elections to serve on the Legislative Council, Board of Selectmen, and Board of Education. She helped ensure our children’s safety after Sandy Hook, and helped them get back to school after the pandemic. She’s listened to you talk about your concerns for Newtown, and has worked cooperatively and collaboratively to address all of the important issues Newtown has faced.

Brandon has shown his leadership skills serving our country as an attack helicopter pilot and an officer in the military. He’s worked for both the Governor and the Lt Governor, helping CT residents get the resources they need to find good jobs. In Newtown, he ran Bruce Walczak’s successful campaign for First Selectman, and currently works for a not for profit that supports pro democracy candidates across the country.

All registered Democrats have an opportunity to be a part of this selection process. You can attend the forum, and ask your own questions so you’re prepared to make your choice in the caucus on May 26.

Join the excitement! Make your voice heard! Come to the candidate’s forum and be part of democracy in action!
