Our Right To Choose
To The Editor:
Recent letters and articles on the use of medical aid in dying (sometimes referenced to inappropriately as “Assisted Suicide’), demand the total prohibition of medical intervention when the hope for a meaningful pain-free life is severely limited. This includes end-of-life situations when individuals often experience intractable pain and suffering, often with just days or weeks to live.
Although some may choose to follow the advice of some of our religious and/or political leaders or others, to endure pain and suffering on the pathway to a heavenly kingdom, some may prefer to chose the less painful and stressful path by turning to medical intervention as allowed by law [legally permitted]. Shouldn’t this choice be our inalienable right in a free society?
