Supporting Embree Ku

To The Editor:

I am writing to support the candidacy of Michelle Embree Ku, one of two Democrats vying to represent Newtown in Connecticut’s 106th House of Representatives district. Why am I supporting Michelle instead of the other Democratic candidate? Here’s why.

Michelle has lived in Newtown for 16 years. She has been involved in local government for 14 of those years. Her service to the people of Newtown includes eight years on the Newtown Board of Education, four as chair. She’s also served locally on the Legislative Council, on the Board of Selectmen, and on the Charter Revision Committee.

Michelle has also served at the state-level, including co-chairing the Connecticut General Assembly's Task Force on Life-Threatening Food Allergies in Schools, and as a member of the Governor's Regional Advisory Team on return to school during COVID. Michelle has proven that she’ll bring intellectual tenacity to her work, that she’ll study complicated issues such as the infamous “Public Benefit Charge” on our electric bills, and that she’ll work to solve the problems that affect the people of Newtown.

Michelle knows Newtown well, because she’s immersed in the community and because she’s an active listener. Ronald Reagan once said, “Most people care about government, not politics.” Michelle Embree Ku cares about government. She knows what good governance can do to improve our lives.

At this challenging time in politics and government, Newtown needs someone experienced and knowledgeable about our community and how to get things done. This is no time for aspiring politicians to cut their teeth through on-the-job training.
