RIDGEFIELD — A summer screening of Semolina Pilchard, a British crime-comedy set in Liverpool, will highlight a local creative connection for Newtown audiences.

The film follows an estranged daughter who returns home to her dying father, a former gangster, and becomes entangled in a complex inheritance conflict with her sister. Blending dark humor with emotional drama, the story explores themes of family, legacy, and loyalty.

The film will screen on Thursday, July 16, at 6:30 pm at the Ridgefield Playhouse. Doors open at 5:30 pm, with bar and concessions available.

A post-screening Q&A will feature co-writer Daina Ann Smith, director Mike Clarke, and members of the cast. Tickets are $38 and available through ridgefieldplayhouse.org.

Co-writer and co-producer Daina Ann Smith is a Newtown-based screenwriter, and daughter of Dorothy and Anthony DeFrancesco. She is also the wife of Gregory Smith, grandson of the late Newtown Bee Publisher R. Scudder Smith, and grandson and nephew of current Co-Publishers Helen Smith and Sherri Smith Baggett, respectively.

Daina is a lifelong storyteller whose work is inspired by family, love, and connection. She also acknowledges the influence of her late grandmother, Starling DeFrancesco, a deeply talented writer who helped shape her creative path.
