Genealogy Club of Newtown will hold an in-person meeting on Wednesday, June 10, 5:30-7:45 pm in the meeting room at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street (note: start time is earlier than usual). This will be the final meeting of the 2025-2026 club year. There will be an election of officers for the ‘26-’27 year, which begins on September 9, and marks 25 years since the club began on September 12, 2001.

The speaker will be Chairman Toni McKeen presenting the topic “Visas and Passports, and How to Request Documents.” After genealogists find the basics about their ancestors — census records, immigration, naturalization, vital records, and similar common documents — there are several other sources that can help bring new information. This presentation coves these rarely searched for documents, how and where to find them, and the information they can add to family history.

Toni McKeen is a historian, professional researcher, and lecturer in the tri-state area. She is a well-known local genealogist, conducting research on her family for the last 35 years. She teaches several classes each week at Founders Hall in Ridgefield. She has traveled to the towns of her ancestors to do hands on research. With a huge Italian family on both sides of her family, she has over 9,000 people on her family tree.

Genealogy Club of Newtown is excited about having an in-person meeting where attendees can chat and visit, but if someone is unable to attend in-person, contact the secretary at genclubnewtownct.secretary@gmail.com. The first 20-30 minutes of the meeting will be devoted to refreshments and visiting. Programs are co-sponsored by C.H. Booth Library, and all who are interested in genealogy are welcome.
