On Wednesday, August 12, Senator Chris Murphy will visit Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, to discuss his new book, Crisis of the Common Good. The show begins at 7 pm and doors open at 6. Tickets are $30.

In his new book, Murphy argues that America’s current political turmoil stems from a deeper crisis: the erosion of the common good. He explores how decades of prioritizing profit, consumption, technology, credentialism, globalism, and political corruption have weakened communities, diminished civic life, and fueled division — creating the conditions that enabled Donald Trump’s rise.

Rather than offering despair, Murphy presents a hopeful vision for rebuilding America around the common good. He advocates for curbing corporate influence, regulating harmful technology, strengthening local communities, empowering workers, and reducing the role of money in politics. Drawing on history, political philosophy, and today’s challenges, Murphy makes the case that a renewed commitment to shared purpose can unite Americans across the political spectrum.

Murphy has served as Connecticut’s US senator since 2013 and is widely recognized for his work on gun violence prevention, political reform, and addressing the epidemic of loneliness in America.
