Kathleen Susan (née Buch) McKee passed away peacefully at home in Newtown on August 26, 2026, at the age of 72. “Kathy,” as she was known by her loved ones, was born on March 13, 1954, to Robert Buch and Joan (née Dion) Buch.

Kathy was born in Southington, and her family lived in Massachusetts and Ohio for a short time. Kathy graduated from Newtown High School in 1972 and was proud to have spent most of her life in town, raising her two children there. She loved being close to the heart of Newtown — the closer to the flagpole the better.

Kathy’s ultimate joy was her family. She also loved gardening, crafts, knitting, and cooking. Kathy had a lifelong affection for cats, especially Siamese. She always enjoyed the beauty of plants, and anyone who visited her at home was guaranteed a garden tour of all of her plants, both indoor and out. When her family was young, Kathy enjoyed camping on Lake Lillinonah and being a Girl Scout leader for her daughter. Kathy was happy to be involved in her community, spending her days at Newtown Senior Center. Kathy was proud of her sobriety and was passionate about supporting others in their recovery. When she wasn’t working or caring for her family she loved traveling and adventures, especially vacations to Rhode Island and Mexico. One of her favorite trips was to Europe with some of her closest high school friends.

Kathy is survived by her son, Andrew McKee, his wife, Melissa, and their children, Ian, Calen and Fia; and her daughter, Brook Clark, her husband, Shaun, and their daughters, Shayna and Brynn. She is also survived by her sisters, Martha Richter, Janet Downes, her husband, Nick, and her brother, Peter Buch.

She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Buch Whitely.

Her family will celebrate Kathy’s life on Sunday, September 13, 2026, 3:30-5:30 pm, in the Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Newtown Animal Shelter, 21 Old Farm Road, Newtown CT 06470.
