To The Editor:

State Senate candidate AmyBeth LaRoche’s team is demonstrating a complete lack of competence and a sorry absence of veracity in her campaign.

In last week’s letter to the editor, a Laroche team member lambasted The Newtown Bee and a letter by a Newtown resident. The LaRoche team stated that the story was false and had been debunked. No it wasn’t, and no again, it wasn’t.

The CT Insider story of August 21, not the Hartford Courier, cited Laroche’s August 14 campaign video on social media. In the video, candidate LaRoche lamented the car tax, complained that her tax refund had to be used to pay her car tax, and that the tax money went to Hartford.

The problem: At the time of the video on August 14, Laroche hadn’t paid her Newtown car tax. Damage control didn’t occur until August 25 when the Newtown Tax Collector’s office reports she finally paid her overdue car tax.

Her statement that she paid her car tax from her tax return: Untrue. Also, I have to question her qualifications when she asserts that the car taxes go to Hartford. Nope, they go to the town of Newtown to relieve property taxes. She got this wrong despite sitting on the Board of Finance for nine months. At every meeting the status of the Newtown car tax revenue is reported by the Finance Director. Has LaRoche been asleep at the wheel all this time?

Finally, Rob Blanchard had nothing to do with LaRoche agreeing to the CT Insider story. The accusation would be libelous except that the allegations aren’t injurious to him. They are actually beneficial in displaying Laroche’s complete lack of qualifications.
