To The Editor:

Being born and raised in Newtown, it goes without saying that the Labor Day Parade has always been a special tradition for my family and me. Every year, it marks that familiar transition from summer into fall — kids heading back to school, sports starting up again, and life suddenly becoming just a little bit busier.

But on Labor Day, Newtown seems to slow down for a few hours and come together. It is one of those days that reminds us just how special our community really is. It gives us a chance to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and share a longtime Newtown tradition with families who are experiencing it for the first time.

From the amazing floats and performances to our police and fire departments, local organizations, and all of the kids proudly marching with their sports teams, there is something for everyone to enjoy. And, of course, there is nothing better than seeing the smiles on the kids' faces as they catch candy, wave to people they know, and excitedly spot their friends along the parade route.

This year's parade went above and beyond, and I especially want to thank Nicole Kullgren and her team for the tremendous amount of time, effort, and hard work that goes into putting an event like this together. Our Labor Day Parade would not be the same without your dedication to this wonderful Newtown tradition.

It is easy to get caught up in the busyness of everyday life, but days like this remind us of what makes Newtown feel like home. Whether you've lived here your entire life or are new to our town, the parade gives us an opportunity to stand side by side, celebrate together, and share in a tradition that brings generations of Newtown families together.

My family and I are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this year's parade so special. Thank you for giving our community such a wonderful way to say goodbye to summer, welcome the fall, and, most importantly, come together.
