The Health Fair Planning Committee has announced the 31st Health Fair will be held at Newtown Community Center, 8 Simpson Street, on Saturday, October 10, from 9 am until noon. Admission is free.

Health Fair organizers — Donna Culbert, Dr Della Schmid, Donna Monteleone, Matt Ariniello, Natalie Griffith, Maureen Crick-Owen, Dyllin Cappiello, Joseph Young, and Neil Chaudhary — encourage all readers to attend. The fair’s concept remains to make available a multitude of free health and wellness services to Newtown residents and friends of all ages.

The community center offers plenty of room for the many exhibitors, activities, and health screenings being planned for next weekend. The event is focused on the health and wellness of the community, and organizers are looking forward to seeing residents attend the event.

Organizers have also teamed up with the US Department of Veterans Affairs to offer a variety of veteran-specific services, in addition to offering free health screenings, free information and guidance, and loads of free giveaways.

Donna Monteleone, commander of American Legion Post 202 of Newtown and District 3 chaplain, says any veteran, regardless of where they live, can attend the Health Fair and sign up with the VA.

“Just bring your DD-214 or discharge papers,” she said.

The Health Fair will also offer free car seat safety checks sponsored by Rotary Club of Newtown, and health partners from Housatonic Valley Health District will be providing flu shots (bring insurance card), among other offerings.

There will be numerous free drawings, gift certificates to many local restaurants, and promotions from many local businesses.

Attendees are welcome to drop in for a quick visit or stay for as long as they like.
