Yvonne York Kopins, 87, of Newtown, died on September 29, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born at home on June 17, 1939, in Pittsfield, Maine, to James W. York, Sr and Nellie J. (Cool) York. She was the oldest of four children.
Yvonne lived most of her life in Newtown and resided for the last three years at Benchmark at Newtown. Yvonne was also an avid reader and was in a book club. A sports fan, she loved NASCAR, the Winter Olympics, and never gave up on her New York Jets. She bowled in the WIBC Bowling League. She loved Chico’s, QVC, whimsy, jewelry, Elvis, spending time with her grandchildren and other family, and showcasing her creativity in multi-media artworks. Yvonne loved pets and counted several dogs among her favorites, especially her Bichon, Dame Frosty. Lana was Yvonne’s feline companion over the last nine years. With her husband John, she traveled extensively and marveled that “a little girl from Maine” got to visit the Roman Colosseum, the Vatican, Fatima, Lourdes, Puerto Rico, and other destinations.
