George Thomas Herring, 66, of Washington Street in Dover, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 28. He was born on February 14, 1960, in Norwalk.

George raised his family in Newtown, Connecticut, and treasured being a father to his two boys, Kevin and Michael. Their earliest and fondest memories include family vacations, trips to Mets games at Shea Stadium, and having their dad at the center of all their activities. George was always one to support his boys, and he always showed up. From coaching Michael’s baseball games to clocking Kevin’s time at swim meets, he was there for the moments that mattered. His immeasurable love and pride only continued to grow as he watched both of his boys become fathers themselves, and the newest generation of Herrings held a particularly special place in his heart.

George moved to the beautiful state of New Hampshire with his wife, Erin, where they embraced and enjoyed the mountain life. Together, they became mini world travelers, enjoying the adventure of exploring new places. Their shared love of country music brought them to many concerts, where they would dance, sing their hearts out, and make wonderful memories together. Along the way, they built lasting friendships, welcoming special people into their lives and creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime. George was also a lifelong and unapologetic sports fan. He loved his Dolphins and his Mets, and he remained loyal through every win, loss, and frustrating season.

A graduate of Fairfield University, George spent 42 years in the financial industry, retiring as a Senior Vice President in banking. Throughout his career, he believed deeply in giving back to his community. He worked closely with Junior Achievement, various Chambers of Commerce, and United Way, where he shared his knowledge and his passion for teaching young people about financial responsibility and preparing them for their futures.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 13 years, Erin McNeil Herring; his two sons, Kevin Herring and his wife, Mary, of East Hartford, Connecticut, and Michael Herring and his wife, Sara, of Enfield, Connecticut; and his stepchildren, Hannah Blasco and her husband, Mike, of Springfield, Massachusetts; Brennah Halsey and her fiancé, Ryan Tolmich, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Gavin Halsey of Dover, New Hampshire. He also leaves behind his five cherished grandchildren, Ellis, Ezra, Harper, Theo, and Carolina, whom he treasured dearly. He will be deeply missed by his beautiful golden retriever, Sadie Rose, along with many wonderful friends and loving family members.

George always knew how to make people feel comfortable. He was a true social butterfly, with a gift for saying just the right thing and making anyone laugh. His smile beamed across any crowd, and his kindness touched everyone he met. He leaves behind a life filled with love, family, friendship, service, sports, music, and countless memories that will live on in all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love he gave so freely will remain with his family and friends always.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George’s memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
