Business Buzz: Live New Wellness
Business: Live New Wellness
Address: 103 South Main Street, Suite M3
Owners: James and Elizabeth Silva
What is your business background? James said, “We started the business a little over three years ago — we’re in our fourth year — traveling as mobile therapists to our patients’ homes. We basically serve Newtown, Monroe, Bethel, Southbury, Danbury, just kind of like the surrounding towns. We’ve … been growing in the community and the needs and the business, so we opened this standalone space as like an outpatient clinic. We opened last month.”
What is your business’ focus? Elizabeth said, “We are both doctors of physical therapy. That’s our primary focus … physical therapy, but our population that we tend to drive towards is fitness-focused adults and young athletes. We help them work through limitations, injuries, movement limitations, to basically achieve their peak performance, whether that’s in their home doing their necessary daily tasks, or a more competitive level on the field, in the gym.”
James added, “I’d say our patient population or client population is very active individuals.”
Elizabeth clarified, “We do see an array of ages, though, and, for what it’s worth, fitness levels as well. It’s more just the emphasis that our patients have on having their health be a primary goal or concern.”
“It’s a little bit different,” James said. “It’s all one-on-one. They’re hour-long sessions, which is a little outside the norm for some of the healthcare models. That allows us to have more time and more individualized or custom treatments, kind of tailoring it towards the individual’s goal or health concerns.”
“We are working with people kind of on those high-level components. Unfortunately, in a traditional PT practice, there’s kind of caps on how many times you can see a patient, what they can be seen for, being able to treat multiple things at the same time, how long you can work with a patient just because of time restrictions,” Elizabeth explained. “Our goal here is to be able to move beyond what is kind of like those initial concerns and not just put a band-aid on what’s going on but really get down to the nitty gritty and root causes, and dive deep in what people’s goals are long term, not just right now.”
“We’re doing some prevention or wellness session where those are usually more spread out because they’ve established a history … that requires a little bit more … ongoing self-care,” James shared.
What is something important to you that readers should know about your business? “On a personal level, we work and live in town. We specifically sought out a location or office in town … we chose and sought out the ability to help people in our community, so that was important to us … We think it’s an incredible community and we felt called to use our skills and our training to help people that are close to us,” James stated.
“It’s kind of a passion project for us. This wasn’t just something we did because we needed a job, we had jobs, but we felt that we needed to treat people better and in a different way,” Elizabeth said. “This was the best way we found to love the people in our community.”
