Garner Inmate Charged In Prison Assault

State police report that Garner Correctional Institution inmate Jerrold Gardner, 30, allegedly assaulted a correction officer at the state high security prison on Nunnawauk Road.

State police said they arrested Gardner about 7 am May 10 on charges of third degree assault and interfering with an officer in connection with the incident.

Gardner was held for a May 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court. Gardner is serving a 12-year sentence on a first-degree manslaughter conviction, according to the state Department of Correction.
