Threatening, Harassment

On the night of May 3, police received a complaint about an incident that had allegedly occurred, after which they investigated and went to the Riverside section of Sandy Hook where they arrested Alexander Spears, 21, of 138 Underhill Road, Unit 4, on charges of threatening and second-degree harassment.

After processing, police released Spears on a written promise to appear in court on May 20.

Portable Toilet Vandalized

Police are investigating a complaint that someone vandalized a portable toilet sometime between May 5 and May 12 at the town’s boat launch on Lake Lillinonah at 196 Hanover Road.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the criminal mischief to contact them.

Fountain Missing

Police said this week that they are investigating a report that someone stole a decorative cast-brass fountain from a residential yard on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Sunset Hill Road.

Police said the theft occurred sometime between late last fall and this spring. Police received a report on the theft on May 7. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Exit 9 Off-Ramp

State police said motorist Lidia Flores Downing, 61, of Derby, who was driving a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, stopped at the end of the Exit 9 off-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 about 3:40 pm on May 7, and was then struck from behind by motorist Katherine Andino, 33, of Danbury, who was driving a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country minivan.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Stop-and-Go

At about 5 pm on May 7 in heavy stop-and-go traffic on eastbound Interstate 84 near Exit 11, motorist Jenna Jasensky, 29, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2008 Honda Civic, stopped and was then struck from behind by motorist Kevin McCarthy, 53, of Middletown, who was driving a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant on her, Michelle Ann Nardini, 41, of 17 Papoose Hill Road went to the police station about 10:20 am on May 9 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court stemming from an original charge of evading responsibility, police report.

Police said that Nardini had been charged with evading responsibility on November 20, 2012, but did not appear in court on that violation, which then resulted in a warrant being issued against her.

Police have reported that on the afternoon of November 20, 2012, they investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred in the parking lot at  Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street in which the motorist who caused the accident drove away from the scene without reporting the incident.

Police said their November 2012 investigation then determined that Nardini, who was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, struck an unoccupied parked Toyota Sienna minivan in the parking lot, after which they charged Nardini with evading responsibility.

On May 9, after processing the charges against Nardini, police released her on $500 bail for a May 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Main Street Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred on southbound Main Street near Academy Lane about 3:35 pm on May 9.

Police said motorist Ronald Dufner, 52, of 21 Diamond Drive, who was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck, struck the rear end of a 2004 Subaru Forester SUV driven by Stephanie Kulowiec, 50, of 90 Nearbrook Drive.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Dufner an infraction for following too closely.

Chain Reaction

A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred on southbound South Main Street about 12:15 pm on May 10, police said.

In that incident near 151 South Main Street, motorist Elizabeth Kelly, 35, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1997 GMC Jimmy SUV, struck the rear end of a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV driven by Laura Rubino, 29, of Monroe, pushing the Jeep in to the rear end of 2005 Nissan Quest minivan driven by Sagrario Biondi, 53, of 7 Stuart Drive, police said.

Police said they issued Kelly an infraction on charges including following too closely.

Dodgingtown Rollover

Police report that motorist Melissa Anne Larkin, 19, of Washingtonville, N.Y., was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus sedan westward on Dodgingtown Road along a sweeping curve near Hattertown Road at about 12:01 am on May 11, when she struck an embankment along the right road shoulder, which caused the auto to roll over.

When the Ford came to rest on its roof, Larkin, who was wearing a seatbelt, was suspended upside down within the auto, police said.

Dodgingtown, Hawleyville and Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the scene to extricate Larkin from the wreckage, police said. Larkin was transported to Danbury Hospital by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to be checked for possible injuries.

Police said they gave Larkin a written warning for making a restricted turn.

 Asleep At Wheel

Motorist Christine Gibbs, 57, of Danbury was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier westward on Interstate 84, about 4,000 feet east of Exit 9, about 4:30 am on May 11, when she fell asleep at the wheel, drifted onto the median, struck some guardrailing and then returned to the left lane, state police said. Gibbs was not injured. Gibbs received an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane, state police said.
