Dolly Parton, the country music icon whose soaring vibrato vocals, poignant songwriting and sparkling costumes defined her rise from a log cabin in the Tennessee mountains to the height of stardom and acclaim, has died. She was 80 years old.

Parton died peacefully Tuesday in Nashville, Tennessee, her publicist said in a statement. A cause of death was not disclosed.

In response, President Trump has ordered United States flags to be lowered “as a mark of respect for the memory of Dolly Parton” as of 6 pm tonight until sunset Tuesday, September 1.

In accordance with US Flag code, which states that no other flag should fly higher than the American flag, all stage, municipal and corporate flags should also be lowered for the same duration.
