Borough Approves Pumping Stations

The Borough Zoning Board of Appeals has approved the construction of two

pumping stations for the town's sewer system.

On July 30, appeals board members approved zoning variances to allow

construction of the pumping stations at 33-A Taunton Lake Drive in a R-1 zone,

and at 17-A Baldwin Road in a R-1 zone.

The approvals allow the town to build submersible sewage pumping stations and

sheds at the addresses.

In June, the town's Zoning Board of Appeals approved construction of sewage

pumping stations at 5-A Glen Road and at 47-A Hanover Road.

Building the pumping stations has been delayed because the town experienced

difficulties in purchasing land needed for construction.

If the sewer system is extended to Newtown High School, the town would have to

build a fifth sewage pumping station.

The sewer system is scheduled to be complete by late 1997.
