SNAPSHOT FOR 8/1/97: JOANNE DIDONATO:

Occupation: Executive Secretary to the Principal at Sandy Hook School.

How long in Newtown: My husband, Russ, and I moved into our house on Underhill

Road in Sandy Hook 21 years ago.

Biggest change in town: From the point of view of my Underhill Road

neighborhood, I've seen a big change. It's a lakeside community and when we

first moved in, most of the other residents were seasonal. Now, nearly

everybody lives there year round. Now the neighborhood is full of children and

that's a nice change.

Family: We have two daughters, Jessica, 17, and Stephanie, 13«, who will both

be attending Newtown High School this coming year as a senior and a freshman.

It's the first time they've both been in one school together and that's good.

But getting all of us out the door in the morning at the same time will be

interesting.

Volunteer: I've been heavily involved in the Newtown High School Marching Band

as publicity chairman, but I'll be stepping down from that job this year. In

my new position at Sandy Hook School, there is a lot to learn and fall is such

a busy time for the band, too, I didn't think I could handle both jobs at

once. I do plan to continue helping the band in other ways, though.

I really have to give the kids in the band a lot of credit because it's a lot

of hard work. They're very disciplined. It's been great to watch them from

band camp to the final product, see how much they improve.

Both my daughters play in the band and my husband, Russ, is even more involved

in band than I am. He's the treasurer.

Personal philosophy: I don't really have a personal philosophy, I just get up

in the morning and try each day to be the best person I can be. I'm a people

person, and I get a lot of satisfaction from helping new parents get

acquainted with Newtown and Sandy Hook School, helping make their transition

time go more smoothly.
