Occupation: I have been a teacher for about ten years at Darien High School. I am one of three guys there who teaches woodworking and industrial type classes, all the way up to high engineering. I facilitate the Darien High School Fuel Cell Program. We compete every year, this year in Detroit, and we took third in the Fuel Cell Division in all of the Americas.

Family: I have been married for seven years. We eloped and got married in Las Vegas, then we came back and got married again with the whole family, then we found ourselves in Hawaii the next year and got married again. My wife, Kristina, and I went to high school together. I have two sons, Max and Griffin, and a third on the way.

Pets: I have a dog. He's a chocolate Lab, and his name is Arthur. He spends a lot of time wandering the neighborhood because he gets out of our fence constantly. It's a great way to meet the neighbors.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We have lived in Newtown a little over two years. We wanted to buy a house where we could settle down. This is it - this is the house we are living in forever. We picked a place that has a great community, amazing schools and a great library. We found Newtown to be a phenomenal place for little kids and families.

What do you like to do in your free time? I have a woodshop in my basement, so I spend a lot of time there building things and making stuff and fixing things my children break. I am the vice president of Connecticut Technology and Engineering Education Association. That keeps me pretty busy. I also do love photography. My dad was a photographer, so I try to do that whenever I get a chance. I like taking the kids to The Creamery.

Do you have a favorite book? I read a book called The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. As a teacher you start to reflect, what's the actual purpose for all of this? I have 45 minutes in front of these kids; what am I going to say that's actually going to make a lasting impression? The author was dying of cancer and he had one last lecture, one more. I thought it was phenomenal.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I love to travel. I have been all over the place. I spent a couple of weeks in China for a school exchange trip, which was very eye-opening. It has a much difference culture than what we are used to. I have been all over Europe. I have family in England, who we visit once in a while. My dad took us to Egypt when I was 17 or so. I remember riding horses in the desert with my dad. So that was really cool; a once in a lifetime sort of thing.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I would have to say the people. We have met everyone in our neighborhood and every one of them is lovely. They are good people, down to earth, and helpful. I wish we had moved here earlier.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? My father. My dad died when I was 19, so we did not have a lot of time. He took my family all over the place. He taught me how to build stuff, how to be inquisitive, and how to fix things. Now I watch myself with my kids. Max is just 3, but he can hold a flashlight and he has his tool box - that's really cool stuff. My dad has inspired me with my kids.

If you could spend a day with anyone, who would you choose? Winston Churchill. I think he was crazy and interesting and could inspire people. I think we could sit down and have a drink and we could actually talk about the world. I feel like he had a great handle on people around him. It would be interesting to see his perspective on our problems these days.

Rich Reynolds is this week's Snapshot profile.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? I like really bad movies. My wife always makes fun of me for it. Starship Troopers is a really dumb movie from the 90s. It's so stupid, but I enjoy it.
